Mark Waid vs Internment Camps

bleedingcool.com/2017/07/05/champions-stumbles-internment-camp-parable/

Champions #10, out now from Marvel, features a story where the remaining members of the team, Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Totally Awesome Hulk and Viv Vision, try to find their missing team mate, Inhuman member Ms. Marvel, in the United States of Hydramerica.

This is because, of course, Inhumans are being rounded up and placed in internment camps by the (definitely not Nazis) Hydra and HydraCap.

The team manages to find one such internment camp, and mount a rescue. However, what they are confronted with is surprising.
Champions, by Mark Waid and Humberto Ramos, decides to follow the story that many of the Inhumans do not want to escape the camp. They do not wish to live their lives on the run in a Hydramerica that would hunt them down, and those that wish to remain fear should some escape, then they would face reprisals from their fascist prison masters.

Good, they're learning their place. Shithuman filth.

Okay and? That makes sense. At least in the camps they don't get hunted and killed like animals.

It's only natural some of them value safety over freedom.

Storytime, because I didn't know it came out yesterday either:

So they gonna go through the Yanxia storyline from Stormblood, got it.

>In fact, in this page we see here that one Inhuman who we see throughout the issue explain this to the team, and in fact says that within the camp at least they are well cared for.

>Which is a bit odd seen as at the beginning of the issue she witnesses one of the robot guards incinerate two teen Inhumans on the spot for merely discussing the possibility of escape.

>Correct me if I’m wrong (I’m sure you will), but living inside this camp doesn’t seem much safer than living outside it. One wrong word sees you summarily executed, after all.

I didn't even bother finishing the storytime yesterday, I just lost interest

...

That just shows how bad it is.

At least with America we read it all to get mad at.

>Moreover, when the Inhumans’ division over decision of what to do becomes apparent, it is not through a complex discussion or debate. No, instead…the crowd of Inhumans devolves into a mob that starts fighting each other.

>Yes, this is comics and conflict must be shown heightened and dramatically in a short amount of space, but making the crowd quickly devolve into a brawling mob because they can’t decide whether to make the decision to leave internment death camps or not feels like a demeaning way of putting the victims of such a heinous crime. I’m sure there could have been other dramatic ways that could have gotten across the weight and complexity of their decision just as well.

>When the Champions are forced to leave, the Inhuman they meet also decides to leave them with this parting comment.
>‘Far bigger battles to fight than this’? Than internment camps? Really?

Whilst there are more complexities to the issue than simply bust them out and leave them to it, I struggle personally believe that anyone would rather stay in an internment camp, a prisoner, at a daily risk of immediate and certain death for stepping ever so slightly out of line. That’s just my read, of course.

>Champions #10 is out now from Marvel.

>as an Asian-American
Fuck off Cho, you're Chinese. While the Japanese were getting their property seized and thrown into camps Uncle Sam was shilling THIS CHINAMAN IS YOUR FRIEND

...

What the hell is Mark Waid's message here? Is he implying that people shouldn't try to escape from concentration camps if they're put in them?

>"dindu nuffin" - miles
can't make this shit up

>Inhumans getting gassed for trying to gass all of Mutant kind
how is Cap the villian again

He's right with how they didn't do anything, though.

It's just realistic.

There's a ton of instances where people wanted to stay in camps or even prisons because their quality of life was objectively better.

Literally none of these people threw a shitfit when the muties were being gassed to death by the shithumans.

What was the point of this issue?

Nothing was resolved. Nothing happened. Why did this story needed to be told? It was almost a bigger waste of time as the Atlantians issue.

KEK

I just bought Daredevil Omni by Waid. He doesn't get this preachy in it, does he? In the first 27 issues?

>maybe try hiring actual PoC
kek, every time

As if anyone bothered to play years of catch up to get to that part of the story of the mogshop shitfest

Inhumans LITERALLY gassed the mutants to death. Theu deserve whatever they get for being literal nazis.

Traytray dindu muffin wrong

Dindu Nuffin only applies when people are guilty.

Micheal Brown "Dindu Nuffin" after he tried to steal an officers firearm.

Philando Castile was innocent and got shot 7 times by someone who never should have been on the force.

Nevermind, just read it.

It's hilarious that the writers honestly seem to believe something like this could be right around the corner for the US, but then I remember this used to be a universe I loved.

>As a writer, I just don't want to turn into Well-Meaning Mark Waid.

This is the guy who was claiming Spider-Gwen was in high school during the Frank Cho brouhaha:

twitter.com/gregthelen/status/586154081590194178

So I think it's already too late for that.

these people are inhuman trash, so....

Inhumans endorse slavery and genocide.

>keep them interned
>Actually feed them so they stay
>not poisoning them

...

We're probably not going to reach the point where we start building camps for brown people in the middle of Arizona, but I can definitely see a few of the deeper red states slamming some restrictive legislation down on Muslim worship and places of residence. Just to be safe, you see.

>killing them without hesitation at the drop of a hat

I almost want to suggest that Waid is writing these as first drafts, and days before they're due to his editor. That's the only reason I can suggest for why everything is so off the rails.

user, I thought they were supposed to teach people that citizens should not be considered the same as soldiers and administrators when punishing a group.

>Mike Brown dindu nuffin and now WB is making a movie for him

Nevermind that neither of those cases or any others involved a white officer just really, really wanting to lynch a darkie.

Not until after the main arc is concluded. Can't remember what issue, but you're fine for most of it.

Because all Inhumans are being punished for the actions of the Royal Family.

The social elite continue to reign in their moon bases and hidden cities while the newly transformed inhuman cattle are culled

>Dindu Nuffin only applies when people are guilty.
Not anymore. Like all memes it gets diluted to mean "everyone I want it to apply to.".

Look at what's ACTUALLY occuring in the West, for once.

Islam is straight-up illegal to criticize in Canada.

No other religions. Just Pisslam.

Oh, that makes sense.

I'd just poison them, mind, but...that works.

How did the Muslim see that and not immediately become a firebrand preacher for escaping?

What was he crying about? Did he call DC and they told him for the 10th time he can't write the Superman ongoing?

Why can't someone else write the Champions book? Like Duggan or Wilson?

I don't get this either. Cho is Chinese American. USA put Japanese folks into camps. Japan when occupying China put Chinese into work camps. If the remote possibility that someone in Cho's family line was put into camps during WWII in China from the Japanese, his phrasing of "as an Asian American" is out of place... or my mind is full of fuck if Cho is suddenly stating that Asian Americans are all one group so the Chinese Americans by default should feel brotherly love and sympathy pains for Japanese Americans.

Fuck, I don't even know.

>Chinese Americans should feel big gay feelings for Japanese Americans
You can't purge the dislike of other asians. It's in their blood. They hate each other by nature, more than Irish hate the Scottish, the IRA hates the British, and the Welsh hate the British.

>Islam is illegal to criticize in Canada
Source?

I feel like Wisom *might* just make it young superheroes doing generic heroic teen superhero stuff.
Which is what we need but not what Marvel wants. Marvel wants this hashtag woke shit.

>Cho is suddenly stating that Asian Americans are all one group so the Chinese Americans by default should feel brotherly love and sympathy pains for Japanese Americans.

He is. It happens in real life among kids these days. Their grandparents hate each other but these college kids think they're comrades.

I bet it's a hate speech law which many countries including the US have.

we're totally drifting into Sup Forums territory now, but let me turn the question back to you, user. How would you feel about Sharia Law being set up in its traditional sense in your local county? This includes the treatment of women, girls, boys and any Christians that happen to live in the county too.

I'd dislike Sharia Law being instated in any community as much as I'd dislike the American government punishing Muslims for peacefully practicing Islam, probably even more than that. I'm not sure why you decided to bring that up, actually.

If that's the case, it must be a southern California thing. It's sure as shit not the case up in WA state campuses or in Seattle.

>he wants so bad to be the Good One he can't hear the people telling him what he's doing wrong

Is it strange that while I agree with this, I also think that statement can also probably apply to everyone in that screencap?

lol no, Koreans hate Japs

>(definitely not Nazis)
Fascists!
They are FASCISTS, not Nazis!

While they are similar, as the Nazism were inspired\based on Fascism, there are a number of key differences.

>xfags didn't bitch all year about m-pox
Most bullshit thing I have ever seen someone post on Sup Forums

Not really. That just means you're not an idiot.

Are everyone in that screencap X-Men fans?

most are

Mark tries to weigh real world views with comicbook practicality like he does with Irredeemable. I think he was just trying to show there is no right answer. They're either going to be dissected in the Inhuman internment camp or hunted down and killed if they run. Catch 22 really.

Then Waid goes full retard with his editorial team and makes Chulk, who is a Korean, shoehorn in about one of Americas most controversial decisions. I have no idea what age group Champions is suppose to be directed towards, but it sure as hell isn't for adults.

I almost feel bad for Waid. He is slowly going insane with the amount of shit he is trying to spew with his multi-race superhero team. Especially when that team gets to talk down to Middle American's who are always racist. You know, cause everyone in Middle America is racist in Waid's mind.

Ironically, you're right that fascism isn't nazism. Fascism as done by Mussolini didn't fall back on petty racialism and actually tried to make sure that the workers and the state had equal amounts of power. Natsoc was just a bargain-bin cult of personality for Our One-Balled Overlord.

Current Hydra are basically Nazi's because they're a new version headed by Red Skull who used the Cosmic Cube to make things very stupid and confusing.

Inhumans literally spread propaganda to get innocent people hated.

This way way before that, during the late 80's-early 90's IIRC. Waid was filling in for Kim Thompson as editor of Fanta's Amazing Heroes zine. Apparently, the phone would sometimes stop working and Waid would get VERY pissed about it.

And yet they are still racist like Nazis.

Which Inhumans? Are you referring to the Inhumans currently in that camp?

>Current Hydra are basically Nazi's because they're a new version headed by Red Skull who used the Cosmic Cube to make things very stupid and confusing.
Don't you get it?
America has always been the REAL nazis

Every one is racist.

>I have no idea what age group Champions is suppose to be directed towards, but it sure as hell isn't for adults.

I believe it's supposed to be for teenagers

Especially Hydra.

The biggest problem with Champions is that they tackle real-world problems in only single issues. They should have whole arcs dealing with human trafficking, Middle Eastern extremism, etc. etc.
Despite the whole idea being "we don't want to just fly in, punch the bad guys and fly away", that's exactly what they're doing.

Amadeus is Korean

>Like Duggan or Wilson?

Those two sound good I guess. I'd also be open to Bunn and Thompson though. Bunn especially, since I wonder if he would take in a weird direction, as the dude seems to love to do occult and horror stuff in his work. Also Bunn created our girl Mania so if he wrote Champions then she would almost definitely be put on the team.

>mfw in my group of friends growing up, the chinese american kid and japanese american friends are best friends
Do you honestly think this shit doesn't happen?

>They should have whole arcs
We ain't never getting whole arcs when there is a event every 4 months.

Kek. I hope this gets Waid off the book.

Careful with that Monkey's Paw user

oh no, they act like regular people

Who could be worse? What could any writer do that Waid hasn't already done?

Wow the comments section is really roasting the article writer.

They're going to put Gabby Rivera on Champions

youtube.com/watch?v=RovF1zsDoeM

>What the hell is Mark Waid's message here? Is he implying that people shouldn't try to escape from concentration camps if they're put in them?
4 months from now it's revealed that every single Inhuman in these internment camps are executed off-panel much to Miles' horror.

that is what happens when the writter and his editorial don't have basic knowledge about history and geopolitics. they go full retard because they want to be cool.
that applies to many other topics like science etc..
thank the "lol just comics bro" for that

And then it turns out that Middle Eastern village they saved awhile back was destroyed and all the women stoned to death by the Isis because they weren't there to protect them.

>Champions, by Mark Waid and Humberto Ramos, decides to follow the story that many of the Inhumans do not want to escape the camp. This is what the mutants did from 2004 to 2012, when the last isolation camp they entered was destroyed by... mutants.

WAS

>The Nazis were bad!
WE KNOOOW

Fuck this goddamn pandering shit. I like Cho Hulk, I dont want him to see him defining hinself on his race like that

Waaait a sec... I haven't been reading Marvel shit for a while... So now Inhumans get discriminated against like they were mutants?
So they pretty much did away iwth mutants, except the cool ones from estabilished comic lines, to replace them iwth inhumans just for them to fit the same role?

>How would you feel about Sharia Law being set up in its traditional sense in your local county?

That would be terrible.

Unless they switched out the specifically Islamic parts for Christian religious law. That would be great!

No the Mutants are still around (just little to no new ones because otherwise Fox gets more characters to use). And yes, Inhumans are getting pushed like X-Men but it's not working.

Inhumans are now being pushed to all hell by Marvel. They're getting more titles than the X-men since Marvel wants them to become the new X-men.

Humans were infected by a fart cloud that makes people in Inhumans. So now Secret Empire has Steve Rogers throwing them in concentration camps.

The Mutants are given their own state within the United States to placate them until Hydra can consolidate their power to deal with them later.

Its just a fucking mess and a half since no one cares about the fucking Inhumans. It was a way to make the reader sympathize with the Inhumans. The problem is everyone who read X-men vs Inhumans already despise the Inhuman, and nothing can change that.

no. mutants went to a new fiction State ruled by mutants and are still around. beast appeared in the last main book and emma fucked over Stevil. they are trying to push the inhumans but since they don't have any decent writter it is only backfiring.
Also this whole thing with Inhumas and Mutants is like the middle east situation in real life. they are aike but hate each other to the pont of bombing each other 24/7. but for people not related to them. they are all the same shit.

subhumans deserve to be exterminated

sounds like a Champions issue

But everyone in care about Inhumans?
