Probably because Genndy was so deadset on building up for her to be killed.
She and Jack should just have been a straight up battlecouple up to the resolution rather than turning her into a reason to torture Jack, it would have made everything much more enjoyable.
I woulda liked some more fight scenes involving them fighting armies back to back and doing tandem combat maneuvers with eachother
