What was the point of that whole "bloody mature now" thing when they stopped it very quickly and went back to classic kid friendly roots?

there's nothing wrong with restraint, user

To convince [as] to greenlight it, because when he went to CN they recommended him to [as].

They needed to get the rating up so that they could put the penis line in. Fun fact: season 5 was made entirely to tell that joke.

The "bloody mature" stuff was actually pretty cool. The question is why they went back to classic kiddy stuff.

This. Just because you have it at your disposal doesn't mean you should use it at every waking moment.

Because too much edgy crap would have ruined the show

Everyone else noticed how shittily animated this shot in particular was too, right? It was like 3 choppy ass frames with an awful looking blood spurt effect and no smear frames or gravity applied to the action, everything about it just looked off and it really bothered me.

It reflects the nature of Jack's despair after being incapable of killing Aku for many years. It becomes lighter after Ashi joins Jack's side and he gets his sword back reflecting his renewed hope.

It's just it. There was a time for killing and then a time for healing.

>very quickly and went back to classic kid friendly roots
It was still kid friendly somewhat especially Aku and the Scaramouche's entire ridiculous journey.

Fucking baboon face

>blood and gore in every episode or else it's not MATURE

This is now a /Samurai Jack/ Thread

just because you can do something, doesn't mean you have to

If you only need extreme violence in one episode or one scene, then that's what you should do. The idea that works should have a certain amount of explicit content dependent on their audience is pretty silly.

>Thread about Samurai Jack is a /SamuraiJack/ thread
N..nani?!

I noticed too. Are you an animator?

discord.gg/rfDZy9b

So the exact opposite of what Frank Miller does?

I still think it's really stupid Jack left ONE of the daughters alive.

I also think it's really stupid that Ashy quickly got over her sisters being julienned. And yes, three episodes is "quick", it doesn't matter how much time passed off-screen

is this loss?

but then this happened

I'm more mad her mother went down so easily. I thought for sure she would've returned for the finale as Ashi's opponent while Jack fought Aku.

Bumping with best waifu

Eh, it ruined itself anyhow

...

Also ironic it was the only episode with some swearing.

But the ending was exactly that, shitting on jack and ashi last minute just to spite happy endings is pretty edgy

They all got over one of their sisters death presumably immediately.
>death is failure
They were taught from childhood not to feel pity for eachother

I said this is another thread but I think t the season would have flowed better if ashi and jack were just a straightforward battlecouple working together in the final few episodes.
And I totally agree with your post, it would have been more meaningful to have them both be fighting together to defeat aku/her mom, maybe occasionally switching opponents or double teaming one while the other is stunned.
Instead though Ashi was turned into nothing but a tool to hurt Jack with, which is really damaging to both their characters.

...

But Ashi was supposed to be different from her sisters. Even though she'd been taught to abhor weakness, she had a sensitive side. She was curious about all the good things that exist in the world, and that was pretty much what motivated her to attack Jack.
I'm not sure if this contradiction in her was handled too well, though. The early Ashi that rants to Jack about killing him and doesn't react to her sisters dying almost feels like a different character than the Ashi from the later episodes.

But her sensitive side was never shown to extend to her family, it was firmly rooted in her appreciation for the natural world.
I also like to think that early ranting ashi was just a guise she was trying to identify as, and that late season was a reflection of her settling into her real feelings and personality, hence why she sounds less gruff/edgy and speaks with a softer more relaxed tone.

Would season 5 have been better received if the whole season was tonally consistent to be less mature like the second half of season 5? The first episodes of a tv show are important in setting up tone and setting and as GOAT as those 3 episodes were I think a big factor as to why so many people disliked the season is because they never kept going that specific route.

...And then the episode after... Needs more DOOM Music.

episodes 1-3
>dark, hopeless, future is irredeemable and jack hates everything
Episodes 4-9
>Light hearted, hopeful, future is something that can be restored in a meaningful way because of Jack's efforts, gives him a reason to stay
Episode 10
>completely undo everything
Even aside from the tone, the themes were completely all over the place and fucked themselves over.
People who wanted the season to be like the first 3 episodes got screwed out of a consistently high quality season, and people who liked the direction the majority of the season was going got screwed out of a meaningful payoff to it's themes.

What was the point of Jack realizing it was okay to kill human beings when he spends the rest of the show fighting monsters?

He doesn't even kill anyone after episode 3 besides aku

He killed some of those stomach parasites in Episode 4, I think.

But yeah, that just makes it even more pointless. The Daughters of Aku were basically just a prop to get Ashi over to Jack and completely changed the tone of the story.

I'm not saying it has to be all edge or all sunshine and rainbows, but there should have been a more organic shift from "Jack kills everyone in this girl's family and almost dies while recalling how his father killed some motherfuckers right in front of him" to "Jack hangs out with Ashi inside of a giant monster while making dad jokes".

John K disagrees

Because pilot episodes are designed to hook the attention of new fags, and judging by the "only 1-3 were good" meme that keeps getting spouted here, it was some damn effective bait.

Something else that bothered me about Season 5: What was the point of Jack getting his sword back in Episode 7? He could've just gone back to his regular appearance in Episode 7 after some meditation and purging of Mad Jack and then headed off on a spiritual journey as a means of getting the sword back or something.

Lazarus was vulnerable to regular weapons, so he didn't need it there. He gives up the sword in Episode 9 and doesn't even hit Aku with it. And he spends most of Episode 10 without it, so he might as well have gotten it there at a dramatic moment or something.

I also feel like there was a bit of a missed opportunity with the sword Jack got in Episode 6. He had A sword but not THE sword. Would've been neat if he tried to fake Aku out with it only for that to fail.

>we didn't see a single scene where jack fought someone with his sword
Lazarus doesn't count because it didn't work

He didn't kill him with the sword, but it was injuring him.

Yeah, because APC was a great show...

Bump

Saving this thread from pulling an ashi for now

doing Gods work user

>not "what a dickhead"

talking penis isn't funny

Remember you can't spell A Shit without Ashi

Isn't there a high res version of this?

You also can't spell "dashing" without Ashi, what's your point?

click on it user

The first 3 episodes were the edgiest and by fa the best.

You aren't funny. "What a dickhead" is so painfully obvious.

What a dickhead would have implied mouche was calling the dude a jerk.

So what nigga?

You shit all over their memories by sleeping with their mortal enemy.

Plus it's not like they were close.

Man, the first three episodes were so brutal. What the fuck happened?

Because they ruined season 5

>being this mad
>Assuming im not a huge jashi fan
>Assuming im not finding that picture funny
> Top lel

I'm now imagining a season 5 in which aku was already defeated and the mother is the final boss

Read his comment again with the knowledge that he is speaking "to" ashi

Everyone knows that Genndy fucked over Jack because Sony fucked over Popeye

I highly doubt that, I thought he WANTED people to support his future works

I honestly think he should have teamed up with Aku to take on the mom as the final boss, then Aku could fuck off to another dimension or something.

that Ashi, while quite dashing (i.e. cute) is, in fact, a shit

I guess technically since she was matter that was the product of oral ingestion.
Character/concept wise she was great though, just really poorly executed

I actually have nothing against her and agree with what you have to say. The problem with S5 wasn't Ashi, it was that Genndy had to cram a lot into just 10 episodes, resulting in a season that felt cramped, jarring, and poorly paced.

A lot of the problems involved her, and her character was really the only new addition that actually stuck through the season(scaramouche has like 10 minutes of screen time total, the violence was mostly ditched) so she's the easiest to blame.
And of course you have those who believe that a romance arc is a sin, and that any character who takes screentime from jack is cancer(even though that wasn't a problem for the bounty hunters, x9 etc.)

And when I say she was involved with most of the problems I mean things like the clusterfuck finale revolving around using her as leverage instead of just having her and jack work as a team like I said earlier

final battle needed to be Jack vs Aku, not Jack's cameo buddies vs Aku. And it needed to be an hour long at least.

I don't understand how people like you don't hang themselves after stubbing their toe once.

No, you idiot. I mean where can I find this image in higher quality.

Your waifu Ashit.

That's a bit of a leap in logic there

The first three episodes were considered to be absolutely amazing, with the whole board almost unanimously claiming Genndy saved western animation. Every episode after that ranged from meh to fucking terrible.

So tell me again what would have ruined the show?

I thought episodes 4-9 were just as enjoyable albeit lower in quality than the first 3

All of Jacks friends coming to save him was the best part of the final episode, the worst part was that the actual final battle was basically just Ashi blocking three attacks from Aku and then pulling a "k, cya fag" with Jack just standing there doing nothing.

4-6 were alright, everything after 7 with an exception of the last few minutes of 9 were absolutely horrible.

I honestly didn't want to listen to the Ashi doomsayers when they first started popping up but everything they said ended up being true.

Yeah, ashi attacking aku and tag teaming with jack woulda been sweet

7 was eh But with great visuals.
8 I loved every second of but I can see why people thought it wasn't Good, and I agree that episode 9 had a really well done ending even if it upset the hell outta me.
The twist of ashis parentage was done horrendously though, there was no actual leadup to it, just "OH WAIT THERE WAS THAT ONE TIME"

>the whole board
>ever taking Sup Forums's judgement seriously

I'm not even disagreeing with you on the first 3 episodes, but you're a fucking idiot if you think Sup Forums's opinions have value

The implication is that these people must have an extremely low distress tolerance to call such a mild ending as that 'edgy'.

To the point that they would kill themselves over the most minor of inconveniences.
Just a long way of saying FAGET

Not saying that the ending itself was edgy, but the idea of putting an out of place bittersweet ending just because happy endings aren't "mature" enough is edgy.

bump

First 3 episodes, pure kino.

Episode 4 was delayed a week because of that retarded rick&morty marathon

Its my theory they used that extra week to do edits and tone down the violence for the remaining episodes.

It's not so much Sup Forums's opinion as much as the fact that Sup Forums actually agreed on something, that's almost unheard of

...

3 belongs in cinema, 4 and 5 belong in movie.

By that logic, every sacrifice ever turns the self-sacrificing character into a tool.

I liked the season until Jack lost his beard. For some reason, that event marked the exact moment when the content became shit.

it's was just too stupid even for this show

When they are done this poorly, yes it becomes a tool.
I wouldn't call this a sacrifice btw. Usually for something to be a sacrifice, it has to be a conscious and weighted choice to forfeit something dear to you.
Neither Jack nor ashi were implied to have any idea she would vanish due to the paradox, so it comes across as more a punishment then a sacrifice.

>OH WAIT THERE WAS THAT ONE TIME
I actually found it kinda funny, only because Aku said it. If it had been anyone else it would have bothered me, but the way he introduced it seemed comical to me.

I was hoping he'd keep it as a visual display of his psychological change after all the shit he was forced to go through.

The season threw basically every metaphor out the window in the last few episodes so we can add what you said to the list of missed opportunities

DUDE

How about you use it as you see fit and don't restrain yourself because some people yell edgy when they see blood?

"penis" isn't a swear, user

the FCC just doesn't want it being spoken on any program below PG13.

"Damn" and "badass" are swears my dude

Bottom of the barrel corrupted person with no way of getting lower
Then they show how good jack is that he can even changer her ways, to the point of putting a ring on it.
not hard, its a purification fetish
