Wednesday's got to be the best day for it, right?

Shop doesn't open for another hour.

Tale of Sand is great. Perez's art with that coloring was amazing.

How did he go from that to C-List monthly shit like Wolverine and the X-Men (once it was a containment book) and Nova?

Does Marvel really pay that well that you need an Eisner to get that work?

last one died over night, you could have prevented this. and you could finally have used the proper template

Good luck fitting Wednesday Comics on your shelf, OP. Mine has been a coffee table book for two years now. I'd have to remove an entire shelf just to fit it.

I bought doom patrol!

thats... it.

but im planning to get the rest of the young animal tps
AND head looper.

btw
tale of sand
UNF.
what this nigga said, it moves me to try to art.

Head Lopper is amazing. Do it.

...

Ordered the Lee / Romita Spidey omnibus.
Seems to be out of stock most everywhere, so I figured I should get it while I still can. Probably gonna invest in the third omni next month.

I bought some Peter David hulk, some gla and some old spider man trades on clearance at a book store the other day

>Tale of Sand
MyNigga.png

Considering I know the size of that book, the rest are just age huge and is impressive.

I dunno. I'm a hardcore Ditko purist with Spider-Man but I can appreciate Romita Sr. era for what it was and what it allowed the character to become... but post-Romita, I don't think there's anything worth owning a big omnibus of.

Vol 2 contains the whole of the Romita run, right?

Wednesday Comics is just massive. I was using the Metamorpho and Adam Strange strips for wallpaper in my current apartment but now I'm moving. This feels like some good closure.

I'm psyched to dive in to the Jack Kirby stuff too. I love off the wall Kirby and I had no idea he had a whole magazine where he just wrote about youth politics and the Kennedy assassination.

QUESTION FOR UK/EU BROS

What sites do you guys use to buy comic books? I'm looking to buy cheap trades and single variants that aren't overpriced.

cheap-comics.com is pretty awesome, but depending on your country of origin, shipping can eat up the money you saved from their generally low prices (they sales are incredible and they have some shit on constant low price, their Omnis/Absolutes are usually normal/high price though if they aren't on sale that is)

bookdepository, but take that with a grain of salt since they sometimes manhandle the books and the packaging is absolute dogshit, just like amazon. take bookdepository just as a last resort

amazon and amazon marketplace

books etc is very good, free shipping in UK
speedy hen over marketplace is great, but if you order from them directly it appears to be cheaper until you realize you aren't in the UK and you pay like €15 for shipping so rather take books etc instead, same comparatively low prices but just like €3 shipping

>cheap-comics.co
what the fuck
it's all so cheap
thanks dude

as I said, better check shipping costs to your country though
and, as I said, when people make these threads they should post the fucking template, it's in the archive

...

4 euros for a GL Omnibus. Nice.

user from last thread who wasn't receiving mail. Got some of it, not the book but some other stuff that I should have received 2-3 weeks ago so I'm guessing it's on its way...

Wow, seems like the three War of Kings omnibus are what you want.

How much did y'all pay for Wednesday comics? It doesn't seem too hard to find but the only story in it I remember/actually really loved was the Flash one.

These came in the mail today. Unfortunately, my copy of Appleseed Alpha has a pretty major printing error. Like 15 pages weren't bound correctly.

I think these are all my purchases from this month so far.

>Flash Gordon
great choice

I only know half of that stuff (not a manga person myself) but by your taste I think I would like it all.

Can you return Appleseed?

my pull list I have been trying to pear down in favor of trades. Was relying on series ending and not picking up new series anymore...then Alien Dead Orbit and Bloodbowl came out. I'm in Canada so it's more expensive here but I think I'm at $50-$60/month now on floppies.

House of Penance was really good, can't wait for Bertram's next project

Meant the specific collection called "Wednesday Comics" not just monthly floppies

I'm not familiar with any Flash Gordon stuff beyond the movie, but it's pretty fun so far. The art has a nice simplicity to it. And Bellaire is always an all-star on colors.

It's always weird to me when people say they aren't a manga person. Or a eurocomics person. Or whatever. They're just comics. There is good shit everywhere. I can probably return it. Not sure what IST's refund policy is because I've never had to use it before.

Man this really makes me wish we got more than just 12 pages of Adam Strange by Paul Pope.
The Flash's creative team here was really fucking great too.

ofc...it's wednesday so my mind is on weekly pull lists.

there are a few reasons I am not into manga much (although I'm reading a Vampire Hunter D book and I like it a lot).
The biggest part is lack of colour. yes, plenty of western comics lack colour but i find that takes a crucial part of the storytelling out of the book. especially for dramatic books. But then again, I have not read Cerebus yet, so I may just have to learn about that aspect better.
I don't like the small page sizes. Hell, I don't even care for the format of american comics all that much, I like the "wide screen" a lot of euro comics use, it enables the artist to show vast spaces much better.
Lastly (off the top of my head), I hate over use of speed lines. I'm sure not all manga relies heavily on it but too much of what I've seen is an over use of speedlines that end up not looking like speed lines but either line breaks or just arrows and it's FAR too overt a tactic. You don't need the entire frame to be speed lines.

but yeah, I'm probably just a pleb for manga. Oh, I also have a Trinity Blood manga I have yet to read. I LOVE the anime, so I have no clue why I haven't read that one yet.

Picked it up on Saturday

As far as I know, yeah.

And I'm still unsure if I should get the third brick. Honestly, it's very likely I'll have had my share of Spidey for a while after the Lee / Romita omni. But I also Slowpoke'd and noticed the Tangled Web of Spider-Man omnibus, that might be interesting. I've read some of the stories in it.

lovely

>Vol 2 contains the whole of the Romita run, right?
No, it does not.

Can ya get a refund on it?

>Daredevil: Love and War - £1.80
>Wolverine: Logan - Vaughan and Risso - £1.80
Probably gonna buy a few more.

check out. I mean literally go to the check out of cheap-comics, they offer some even cheaper stuff there, got Goddess and some Blue Beetle TPB for €3 each. just do that, put whatever you like that's there in your basket, then continue shopping as usual.

Those whole trades or single floppie?
Cause if whole trade NICE PRICE.

Bump

>cheap-comics
Any way to filter by price?

Here's some things I got on a few recent trips.

Wednesday Comics was great
How is Spirit World? I've always been meaning to watch it

War of Kings is an overblown ending to a really good cosmic marvel saga, they blew that shit up way bigger than it needed to be.

I'm sorry but I'm afraid the council has agreed that you have to kill yourself.

What's so horrible about this?

>Guardians of the Highlands

OH MY GOD IS THAT MOTHERFUCKING SIR BILLI?
Wait ... Is that a localized title for it or did Sir Billi get a sequel????

Is that soundtrack CD of 60sHercules or just a regular CD case for that Dvd?

What fucking insane asylum of a goodwill did you find this stuff?

Localized title
Soundtrack to the 60's show. The DVD is a direct-to-video animated tie-in movie of the 90's Hercules and Xena franchise.
Several Half Price Books clearance shelves over weeks. I make it a point to look for the most obscure animated things possible.

Anyone pickup the Action Comics Rebirth Deluxe hardcover?

I got mine from a lcs for $32 last year

>Hercules & Xena cartoon
>Guardians of the Highlands
>The Mighty Hercules... audiobook?

>was highly anticipating Transformers vs GI Joe Quintessential Edition
>was supposed to come out early this year
>got delayed until November

Kill me now.

I attended Fanboy Expo in TN while visiting family on vacation from the wintry north. I got each of trades there which averaged out to about $7.50 apiece and got to meet Larry Hama, Rags Morales, Amy Jo Johnson, and Jason David Frank. Still kinda bummed I missed out on meeting Hacksaw Jim Duggan and seeing Doug Jones again though.

Hama signed my digest-sized Bucky O'Hare trade and G.I. Joe #34 and Rags was really cool to talk to. He was a really laid-back guy and he got excited when we took an interest in a print of Captain Marvel and Dr. Sivana done in a sort of Norman Rockwell-esque painting style, which he said was a favorite among his work and that no one really seemed interested in it until we came by.

Amy Jo Johnson was in a bit of a rush because a local screening of a movie she crowdfunded was about to start near the end of the con, but she was kind enough to sign a group photo of the Power Rangers for my kids.

I've heard a lot of mixed things about JDF over the years, but he was really cool. I ended up being the next to last person in his lengthy queue, but he stayed nearly two hours after the con had ended to take the time and chat with each person and frequently thanking those in line for their patience all the while. When I got to the front of the line, I explained that I was a big MMPR fan way back in kindergarten and that he was my favorite Ranger. He thanked me for the support, signed the photo for my kids, and then threw in a free signed Dragonzord print for having to wait so long.

>Jeff Parker's Flash Gordon
>The Amazing Screw-On Head & Other Curious Objects
You're in for a treat, my friend.

>Chas Addams' My Crowd
Nice. That's the only collection of his that I've come across in the wild, so I had to snatch it up when I found it.

Jelly

You have my taste circa 2012 OP and I like to think I have good taste so you have good taste.

It's really entertaining to read. I'm a bit surprised how much reference Araki makes to film. There's a lot of mention of classic directors like Truffaut and Hitchcock...

>hitchcock
I don't remember a fat man making a brief cameo in Akira. Might need to rewatch it.

I love con-stories like that

>Parker run

Terrible choice

I'm reading that too. Love it.

My favorite parts so far are where he talks about plots he loves vs. plots he thinks are bad. He casts some major shade on Kick-Ass 2 and what the writers did with Hit Girl.

The movie or the comic? Never seen either so idk which is the bad one.

Could be either.
Kick-Ass 2 is horrible, but the movie is pretty much better, but it also does Hit Girl worse than the comic did.

Here's my shelf from last thread since i need more (you)s. Lackadaisy 1 is on the way, along with a small Amazon order. Quick question. I got that month trial of prime but plan to cancel it before the month's up. If I preorder something now with the prime trial, but it comes out after Prime is used up will the preordered item get prime shipping? I'd love to get Satania day 1

There you are user, I had a question for you in the last thread but it died.

>I have a question though. I know in the library edition the picture is skewed a bit, at least in Circle of Blood. But that one is originally drawn on a different page layout than the rest is. Is the rest skewed too? If so, by much or would you still recommend it?

>Honestly, I don't care if Circle of Blood is skewed, I own that volume anyway in the normal formatting.

Was planning on ordering one or more from Amazon this month

The art's definitely a bit stretched, but I went in blind and only noticed it a couple times with full page splashes. Like I got a "something seems off about that drawing" vibe, but Mack's art usually takes liberties, so I didn't think much of it. Pass on it if you're a purist, but it's readable and looks nice on a shelf, especially since they're not too pricey.

thanks. Maybe I will pick up a single book to sample how it is. In Circle of Blood (if I didn't have it) it would bother me cause so much of that book is about perfect circles. His later stuff is more abstract and doesn't center on that as much.

Thanks.

Speaking of David Mack, why has he not done, like, anything outside of Kabuki? He has a handful of Daredevil issues, but that's it aside from some cover art.

Covers pay more than pages and he's probably one of the most wanted cover artists.

Yeah, but Kabuki made me think he was in it for the art instead of the money. I guess he just doesn't think he has another story to tell or something?

I guess, being creative and writing a story from scratch isn't that easy.
Also those things take time, paul pope still hasn't done a second volume for battling boy and it's been like 4 years or someting.

So /shelf/, what are we hoping to get out of SDCC? Aside from rage and tears, of course.

Still waiting for the second volume of Duncan the Wonder Dog too.

Good news about the Sonic comic. Any news from Neca about the new Laika license.

It got delayed so they could include that one shot that came out not long ago

>MUAAAAAH the French comic hasalwaysbeencelebratedforitsexcellence

Apparently, the antagonist from Araki's first published comic is based on Orson Welles from that awful wine commercial. Now this is what I call bizarre!

>casts some major shade on Kick-Ass 2 and what the writers did with Hit Girl.

I laughed out loud when I came to that part - he brings it up in such a nonchalant, dry manner and keeps mentioning it. It think it's a case of Japanese banter which is hard to pick up because they are so subtle and nuanced in their writing, especially when it comes to criticism.

Nothing lately but I want to get a AS box but don't know where to find one.

What are prices like at cons? Overpriced since they have a captive audience or decent because dealers can sell direct?

Going to one next week for the first time and not sure whether it's worth saving cash for then or blowing it online instead.

It really depends, sometimes there are good deals and rare comics and sometimes it's overpriced and filled with "collector" books that aren't worth a shit. Always price check your stuff, unless and artist/writer is there and can sign it because that's dope and well worth the extra money.

Full of country goodness and green peaness

I dnn't know really, I read a lot of the dailies and they were awesome, haven't managed getting into newer Flash Gordon runs yet

>find all the signs captcha next next next next next
FUCK!

Parker's run is definitely one of the lesser ones.
A waste of Shaner art.

sometimes you can make an incredible deal

won't waste my time on it then

As other user said, he does covers. But also did the Jessica Jones intro, so maybe he's branched out into Sup Forums too.

The signs shit is out of hand. I think I'm switching back to word Captcha

same, but they sometimes fuck up for me, too (some of those shit hosts for when you download porn use them). I CLEARLY got the right words written out and it still says it was wrong.
and the "click until nothing is left" captcha are absolute dogshite too since they take so fucking long

I might honestly just get a pass. I'm getting sick of it. How many captchas would you need to complete a day to make it so a pass starts costing Sup Forums money?

bump

What are you guys reading at the moment?

I mostly just buy trades and there are usually some great deals if you don't mind to look through a few dozen bins. See my earlier post, . Each of those Howard The Duck trades has a cover price of $35, Devil Dinosaur's is $25. I spent around $32 for the lot of them.

I'm about to delve into the first Don Rosa Library hardcover. I loved The Life & Times Of Scrooge McDuck, so I hope these stories live up to it.

Marville storytime of pain
Ultron Unlimited
Road to War of Kings downloaded the whole marvel cosmic library from Giffen on.

War of Kings Omni even though I should still finish Fantastic Four Omni vol 1

fucking captcha

I have a geneorus wife and a fuckhuge collection, so I hop around- a lot.
ASM omni 3
War of Kings Omni, but it too soon after reading it all on unlimited last year so I'm thinkng of putting it away. Also, I think I hate Darkhawk more than Wraith.
He-man mini comic collection- surprisingly entertaining.
I am pretty much always rereading Werwolf By Night. I don't know why.

Ravina the Witch? Courtney Crumrin, and I've stalled out on Hellboy around Witchfinder for some reason.
