Adventure times problem is that the writers seem to hate finn and keep making it more depressing and forgetting its original themes, plus bubbiline is one of the most cancerous ships in existence. Steven universe problem is that it maly focuses on the boring towns people or steven who is objectively a very annoying and poorly written character. If it was more about SOL stuff with the gems itd be perfect. Star vs is actually pretty good now, however.

The FP breakup arc ended 4 years ago, quit bitching about it. Shipping is actually pretty minimal in AT, especially in comparison to those other two shows.

Because the one thing that Steven Universe and many others working on Cartoon Network: Tumblr adult children loves this shit because it's relatable and it's only thing they're gonna watch except for Supernatural, Dr. Who or Sherlock. Even back then, the days of tumblr idiots thinking that they are wiccans was a big all time high.
Anyone who didn't like Sherlock was the enemy astoundingly, so how to make a show that basically touch the core aspects of it? Well it's pretty fucking easy. It didn't take that easy to do it, all it took was basically looking on tumblr:

*and anything that basically was against those silly christians.
And soon Eureka! The new trend became the trend, people being hipsters were the true main core demographic. Now what the fuck am I on about?
There are three main demographics when it comes to cartoons and George Lucas probably found that out:

2. The child

That is the one true demographic the kind that spends on the DVD's and Blurays and downloading the episodes of Steven Universe on a constant backlog like it's the next Archer. And that's the reason why the shows will never deliver. Good ol' TV shows like PowerPuffGirls, Samurai Jack (Before finale), Cow and Chicken, Ren And Stimpy, Spongebob (the earlier years) were all focused on kids. But when the kids grew up and their good ol' socialist professors woke the fuck up at 11 am to start teaching because capitialism makes you lose sleep man so did their wallets.
So to put it simply: Trendy shit ruined everything.

In Star's defense, I don't watch it but unless you started watching it when it first started airing all anyone talks about is the shipping and lore so I'm assuming that's all there is to like about it.
It's less that shipping and lore took over the show and more that it's the only worthwhile thing to watch the show for.
