All this year I'll be posting Punisher comics. Most of them will be from the pre-Ennis era, but some will be from the Ennis era. Expect at least 1 storytime per week.
I've already posted 2 storytimes today. You can read them here:
Punisher - Bloodlines: Punisher - Countdown (prequel to the Thomas Jane movie that came packaged with the DVD): Over the course of this year I've posted nearly every single Punisher comic from the early 90s. One of the very few that I haven't gotten around to yet is a... Well, I'm not sure it even counts as a "comic" actually.
In 1994, to commemorate The Punisher's 20th anniversary, Marvel released a "magazine" of interviews and previews for various then-upcoming Punisher comics as well as a look back at the history of the character. It also has one of my favorite Punisher covers ever, drawn by the always excellent Michael Golden. It has some cool stuff in it, and it's definitely an interesting time-capsule of when The Punisher was super popular and merited all these various titles. Anyway, I figure it's also worth storytiming, so let's get right to it.
MARVEL AGE SPECIAL - THE PUNISHER ANNIVERSARY MAGAZINE
Is that the longest credits page in the history of comics?
Gabriel Torres
Michael Golden is great.
Easton Morris
>Chuck Dixon plans on staying with The Punisher titles for the long haul
This is borderline depressing to read in retrospect. It's a shame what happened to Marvel in the mid-90s. They never quite recovered from it.
Jayden Russell
>Not The Punisher Armory
I'm still pissed that never came out.
Gabriel Richardson
>Cruise Hard
That sounds awesome. Shame that never got published.
Austin Stewart
>Hard Copy
Man, there were so many cancelled Punisher stories in the mid-90s.
Sebastian Jackson
John Buscema's pencils have probably aged the best out of any Silver Age comics artist.
Luke Evans
This is genuinely interesting. Cool shit.
Henry Rivera
Mike Baron might be a lunatic. But he might also be my favorite comics writer.
Landon Parker
It's nice to see it confirmed by the creators that Jake Gallows was meant to be actually insane.
I mean the comic makes it bloody obvious, but one might confuse that with it just being a 90s exxxtreme trend written into the comic. But it wasn't, Jake was meant to be insane.
Christopher Campbell
this is actually really useful lol
Dominic Rodriguez
It's CLEARLY a satirical comic. Tongue-in-cheek at the very least.
Carter Ward
No problem.
Nathaniel Nelson
Bump of appreciation for OP
Thomas Torres
It's written by Pat Mills. Of course it's taking the piss out of the Punisher.
