Question movie by Snyder when
got these amazing c2c scans for a good chunk of the run now
It's okay in DC as long as you don't actually have Jesus show up. We learned that because of Swamp Thing.
so what was good today, I've been playing vidya and jogging instead of reading
Unironically nothing.
>KING CAP in #700
>Nrama making a mistake: Phoenix Resurrection #4 next week, they said
>First Infinity Countdown checklists consists only of the Duggan GotG run and all Infinity Countdown issues solicited so far
I love this comic so much, and still have a "DC classics" compilation of it. You are doing a good thing by story timing them.
I've been watching new Devilman instead of reading comics, no regrets.
I enjoy reading comics with everyone here
we're off a bunch again and then in a week/two or so I shift schedule for a bit so we should actually have regular storytime
I can't believe that the saga of Marvel's Lenticular Covers just keeps on going.
>Offer them only to people who over-order their previous orders
>Release them and people realize that the build quality is poor
>Announce that they are now open-order
>Cancel that announcement because retailers who over-ordered to get them got angry
Big Boss: how early is too early for you?
Me: ugh, mornings, why do they even exist
I love Vic's luxuriant mullet so much
Hello, Storyteller.
>that Wonder Woman issue
... Y'know, I'm not even really angry anymore. At this point, it's just kinda sad.
Youngblood and Stray Bullets, naturally.
Hell yeah
yeah, a friend sent me that and I was all "fukken really?"
me and my mabari murderdog: still BFF
I'm on episode 3, it's really not doing much for me. I didn't like Kemonozume either. Yuasa is awesome though.
>they left this out
BLUNDER OF THE CENTURY
Finished that last night.
Hit a good mid-level Avatar Press spot.
> the original manga collections got delayed from March to May
Come on Seven Seas
jesus christ
THink of everything Marvel's losing by not paying a decent fucking pro 70k to come in and run the goddamn PR department
...
Think of the money DC's losing by not hiring a competent person in charge of their trade department.
It's basically the Bob Harras attitude of the mid 90's. " We're still on top so who cares?"
Even a lesser one would have seen they should've cut loses at the second thing in that greentext
Nothing storytimed was good
Mister Miracle and Runaways were ok
the actual trade decision-making department is bad, but the trade marketing department is quite good based on the sales numbers
Probably the worst Mister Miracle issue so far.
I'm not a fan of King's Mister Miracle, but yeah this was a step down.
Hey OP.
I think that after two and a half seasons of mediocrity, Supergirl has broken my willingness to overlook it's numerous flaws.
...
They claim it's to make them as high quality as possible.
Even James Marsters was a better looking Brainiac 5.
And he was like 40.
The Question for tonight is:
>What's King Faraday doing in this low rent Passion Play?
>but the trade marketing department is quite good
Nah. They never advertise collections of older material. Hell on their essential and recommended lists for Suicide Squad they have Adam Glass Suicide Squad and what's his face that did two short runs and a ton of solo Harley but no Ostrander.
The Harley stuff is especially bad because Harley also has a separate category for recommended Harley stuff.
what I don't like is that it was finally the reveal issue but I'm not really sure what was even revealed
WW wasn't good.
So hey, Storyteller. I seem to recall you really liked Julia Kapatelis when we ran the Perez run...
NOT MUH
Sarah Ruhl's Passion Play has got to be one of the weirdest things I've ever seen that worked and shouldn't have, remotely
Issue 1 was alright and 5 was good-ish. 5 still had problems but had a few really good moments and an actual payoff at the end. The Bendis quote on the cover legit made me laugh, not because of the past criticism that people have directed at King but because in this issue 90% of the dialogue is superfluous.
Perhaps I should have said marketing to retailers then, because they seem to have that "in" that Marvel is missing. Marvel doesn't peak the same way with like movie releases and shit even though it's obviously more popular among normies.
I've been thinking about buying either a journal or a calendar, or both, and using it to track activity/force myself to attack backlogs.
love these faces
Does that mean we won't be getting the Frankensteined versions full of pages Nagi has gone back and redrawn over the decades?
Issue 1 was...well, it had moxie but I found it incredibly misguided in terms of content. I mean, come on - "the" Son of God? Jesus.
But I will concede that I think #4 was okayish. Because Scott acted least like a dumbass in that.
That seems like more than a kilogram of cocaine.
I guess the pregnancy? Even though people suspected this before this issue came out. I guess the "shocking" death of Orion? even though you kinda felt Darkseid would show up at the end and maybe the more popular theory was to reveal himself as Orion in disguise.
I've started meditating regularly since I got an app for it, go for it
NO SPOIL PLZ
... Oh fuck me, I just realized what's going on with his hair. Einstein. For fucks sake.
Also, everything about Imra is wrong, and I hate it. They couldn't even be arsed to get her logo right. It's a silhouette of Saturn. Did you forget what Saturn looks like?
I fear it means that's exactly what we'll be getting.
>NOT MUH
I think it may be NOT ANYWUH'S.
They sell collection of current titles though, not older material, DC always did better in sales when it comes to collections. Marvel usually gets a small boost from retailers over ordering when some movie/tv show comes out.
I feel like I already knew the pregnancy was a thing, but I can't tell if the story foreshadowed it or if King said something that hinted at it.
What confused me was the Darkseid shit at the end. Idk, I'll read it again eventually.
>Did you forget what Saturn looks like?
Is a thousand years long enough for the ways the rings orbit to change, slightly?
>DC always did better in sales when it comes to collections.
A big part of that was Karen Berger realizing before most that the bookstore market was the future.
>I mean, come on - "the" Son of God? Jesus.
That was said in I think all issues(?). I also find #4 to be the worst and Orion getting punched and his reaction was just as insufferable. As was the I think Holocaust story in 2(?)
Darkseid is the face of God.
>They couldn't even be arsed to get her logo right.
Yeah, that got me angry with rage too.
Like, fucking hell, if you really need to do something wacky, at least use astrological/alchemical Saturn, not some fucking tentacle spiral.
...
Yeah I'd agree that's a failing, they don't do enough to promote older material. Wonder if part of that is they're worried normies won't buy stuff with the older looking art.
I just place a high premium on Scott at least acting like he can see the obvious. And #4 stands out.
Was it said in all the issues? Because I remember it being only said outright in that one. And god King is awful about that shit. They're all gods.
I hope Berger Books does well. I hope The Seeds is good. I hope they release a Deluxe Moonshadow soon.
BAD QUESTION FIRST APPEARANCE WHEN?!
Surgeon X was a wet fart, that's for sure
Yeah, Barda says it a few times. She did in #6 too and I think 3 or 4? Maybe not in 2 and 5. I don't remember but it's been said at least in 3 issues.
>They're all gods.
I actually find the "lol I am a god" part with he guards and the one with Scott in bed "what even is Darkseid is" to be the most insufferable things so far.
Also it's Darkseid Is. King is a hack.
IS Robinson bringing back my daugteru?
...
I only read the first issue but it didn't sound or look interesting at all anyway. I think I like Shelly Bond better as an editor anyway.
>I actually find the "lol I am a god" part with he guards and the one with Scott in bed "what even is Darkseid is" to be the most insufferable things so far.
Same.
It's EXACTLY like when he did the "What does Darkseid Is even mean? Probably nothing" bit. Taking a salient point and then using it about his run and making it a joke beat. It's just...so backhanded.
Yeah I'm waiting for Seeds too. But what Dark Horse still needs is new talent. Not just some former Vertigo/Marvel people in addition to the same mainstays since the 90's like Mignola, Darrow, or Sakai. Great as they all are.
It had a solid hook but it was blah blah blah talky AND not quite Tom Taylor class blunt but getting there
yeah, let's talk about the StL suburbs, lol
Sounds like what, Town and Country? maybe not that high-end.
>like when he did the "What does Darkseid Is even mean? Probably nothing" bit
That's the one I was talking about.
I also give #1 extra props because Gerards hid his weaknesses well with those effects. Recent issues he's been so lazy.
I wonder who would re-release Moonshadow. IDW did The Last One a few years ago, and Dover Publications had a "Seekers into the Mystery" complete edition a few years ago too
Yeah, Vanessa's back, but predictably, it falls flat due to lack of proper build up.
Also, Poochie is part of this arc, throwing wild parties in Diana's house, which is something Robinson felt warranted more pages dedicated to it than the stuff with Vanessa.
Oh, and Julia randomly dies off screen.
Ah right.
I try not to take shots at Gerads with this series. Since I doubt he's the one who decided to have even more blatant christ symbolism with the sex scene.
The people on Mata Hari are new blood and while Bourdain has worked in comics before he's still fresh because he hasn't worked in it a lot. Also great artists for Hungry Ghosts. Bond is scouting for new blood though.
...
>It had a solid hook
Meh. Art also looked meh,
Son of a bitch.
Dover also did Mercy and I think Stardust Kid?
I'm thinking it might be Berger Books because Karen and Marc are old friends, he's the one that got her into comics actually.
Is their history with Diana brought back or are they rebooted?
It'd definitely build some good will with me if Robinson was trying to restore some of Wondie's history
No but he's the one that draws a panel and then copy pastes it several times and makes small modifications. Also probably still traces like a madman.
...
True, but re-using original caption boxes for the laziest and most uninspired juxtaposition is out of his purview.
Colour change on the suit is more pronouced and therefore better this issue.
The artist is dead, you dick.
I'm never sure if the hair is deliberate or not?
Eh, sort of? Lots of narrating about how they used to be old friends.
Then this storyline again:
I mean, they're both shitting the bed, my point is just that I though Gerards actually did a good job in #1 while the rest of the run he's been lazy as fuck. The page where Scott and Barda teleport to granny and it's just 9 panels of granny with very just 3 panels having a few lines erased and redrawn to change the expression of the mouth is just the best example of that.
Oh I get that, and I agree. It's...such a misfire of a book.
Really? what the hell?
The shift from Blond to Brunet? That's also the gas, but was more consistently done well.
Dave is the current series of Stray Bullets all prequel? I literally just read up to Killers and securitized to see Orsen.
well, I'm mulling wine tonight so I feel happy
And I can put a lot of the blame on Mr. trader because Omega Men was scripted by King too but it actually looked great because the penciller was good.
Yeah, so that happened. Again, I can't even summon any anger for this otherwise offensive crap. At this point, it's just expected that Johns and Robinson will shit on everything they get their hands on.
Nope. We're -told- that Diana and the Kapatelis' are good friends, but in practice, Vanessa is just another person Diana saved, instead of being her Jimmy Olsen. Nessie becoming distanced from Diana and turning into Silver Swan is so forced, it ends up being downright hokey. It's kind of pathetic how poorly executed it is.
I thought even those effects were lazy. Because I've seen most of them just drawn by other artists, not tweaked in Photoshop.
Stray Bullets pisses me off because it's really good but I can't read it at this pace so I gotta read arc all at once.
...
