I thought the thundercats reboot went well.
>GI Joe
Kids don't like military toys anymore, society at large is kinda anti-war right now.
>Thundercats
You need good writers, not the hacks who did the 2011 version.
>He-Man
Has become a complete joke in the public consciousness, especially thanks to Four Non-Blondes.
I liked the Cobra series from teh IDW reboot but the rest was kinda meh. I'm slowly maing my way through Hama's return to the book and it's still pretty good.
Thundercats reboot was good but there was so much filler. So much filler. If they cut that down about 80% and kept on a rollin' at least more people would look back on it fondly. I enjoyed the Silverhawks and Tiger Sharks mentions.
He-Man had some pretty good comics under DC. I was really surprised.
...
Because unlike Transformers, these things didn't maintain a fanbase through the 90s and 00s. It's that simple....
Kids grew up on Transformers, then they grew up on Beast Wars, then they grew up on RID or the Unicron Trilogy or Animated or the Bayformers, then Prime......Transformers never stopped, the others did, they lost traction and never managed to get it back when they tried, they lost the attention of old school fans and failed to capture younger audiences to add into the fold
Transformers was developed by guys who had written Marvel comics for decades. Aside from how mind-bendingly cool it was to be a kid and get a toy car that transformed into a robot(oldfag here, still got my G1's) the cartoon/comic lore was DRIPPING with archetypal content.
GI JOE is a little problematic because it's specifically military-themed and that's always going to bring a lot of complications and mild unease. We already worship soldiers and the military enough in the US, a large enough segment of the media-consuming population will never be able to get onboard with that to really make it mainstream.
He-Man is... I mean, the main character is a giant muscleman named "HE-MAN"! And all of his ludicrous, poorly animated friends have to call him "HE-MAN" all the time. And the bad guy is a skeleton named "Skeletor". It's like the opposite of the attention and care that was paid to developing Transformers. It's just too fucking goofy to endure. And the goofiness is really the only memorable part of it.
Fucking Orko man.
>It's just too fucking goofy to endure. And the goofiness is really the only memorable part of it.
There was always this bizarre dissonance between what the visual content seemed to suggest and what the actual cartoon was like. These characters looked like a cross between Heavy Metal and Robert E. Howard, yet the cartoon was about as hardcore as My Little Pony.
I feel like the original live-action movie more or less nailed the attempt to treat the visuals in a sincere, non-ironic way which was basically entertaining and I think there IS a way to approach these characters in a way which is as brutal and metal as their character designs seem to suggest, but I think that the IP owners would be justifiably wary about taking a gamble with both the cost of producing something like that and with damaging a property which made them a lot of money once upon a time with something which might be alienating for kids.
>G.I. Joe
Renegades was good but the crying of the unsatisfied Hamafags and Old Joefags plus it being shown in the Hub killed it.
>He-Man
The MYP cartoon was good, the DC Comics had some good ideas but the execution could've been better. Giffen also wrote the worst Teela and she only became likeable after he left and Abnett and the other writer took over.
I don't know enough about Thundercats to comment.
>GI JOE is a little problematic
Oh bullshit. People still love military action movies. And with Cobra being a clearly evil mustache twirling terrorists it shouldn't cause any problems. The only issue is how you approach the concept, as most people idiotically think they need to be cartoony, over the top pew-pew-pew lasers shitfest due to the show, rather than being semi-grounded like the original comic focusing on military action with ninja shenanigans, robot troopers and wacky high tech toyetic vehicles .
He-Man's goofiness shouldn't be a problem to advertise in the age of Superheroes (who have some of the most retarded names and concepts).
Make an interesting story with fleshed out characters, good visuals and some famous VAs
>Fucking Orko man.
Yeah people hated Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Howard the Duck in the Guardian movies.
They need to get people who give a shit about those properties first, the fact that they always get people who want to reinvent them with their own shitty ideas is what makes them fail.
He-Man is already doomed with Goyer and She-Ra is going to be turned into another SJW wankfest.
Fuck at this point I rather all that money would have gone to getting the people who did the 2002 He-Man reboot and give them a third season to finish their story on Netflix or something.
I liked the 2011 Thundercats reboot.
A lot.
I never really understood the hate it got. I mean sure, Lion-O got shat on a bit too much, but the vast majority of the complaints seemed to revolve around whiny rose-tinted nostalgiafagging.
>Fuck at this point I rather all that money would have gone to getting the people who did the 2002 He-Man reboot and give them a third season to finish their story on Netflix or something.
I actually never got to see that one. Come to think of it, I never hear anyone talk about it. How did it turn out?
It had it's problems (like it become obvious it was a cartoon to sell toys during the Snake Men arc) but overall I thought it was pretty good. It fleshed out the characters, gave them more personality, and it added to the lore. The writing was also more serious than the 80's cartoon but it didn't get edgy. I hate how they never another season because we could've seen He-Man versus Hordak.
The only thing I wish it would have done differently was drop the secret identity thing, I always maintained that both She-Ra and He-Man don't need to have a secret identity. Their enemies are going to attack their loved ones anyway and it would make their hatred of them more personal.
Seriously tho Mattel should focus on putting that cartoon on Netflix and concentrate on finishing it, that show would've benefited if there was streaming back then.
>Seriously tho Mattel should focus on putting that cartoon on Netflix and concentrate on finishing it
They have the old He-Man and She-Ra cartoons on Netflix and seeing from some of comments on twitter and tumblr people are watching them.
Adding the 2002's He-Man and the Masters of the Universe would be a good move to make people more interested in the movie (even if Goyer will fuck it up)
White male lead
because people think they need to "adapt" them. not every show need season arcs, drama, and intense character study. not that these are bad things but sometimes we just need good guys punching bad guys in the face.
Test.
>Kids don't like military toys anymore
>Has become a complete joke in the public consciousness
But thats all lies?
>hating 2011 thundercats
Shut the fuck up boco
Its a shame that GI Joe is less popular because the last two cartoons Renegades and Sigma Six were good.I honestly think that those awful live action movies hurt the franchise.
Thundercats 2011 had a good plot but the characters were terrible and that undermined the series.
He Man 2002 was good. Its very underrated but ended early due to circumstances.
>GI Joe
>Kids don't like military toys anymore, society at large is kinda anti-war right now.
when Call of Duty and other military first person shooters exist.
Hasbro really doesn't realize G.I. Joe is basically Call of Duty meets Team Fortress 2/Overwatch.
Wtf is that shitty attempt at art on that transformer? Literally, let’s just draw boxes and put a face on it. Don’t forget the gun.
I mean ... it's not.
He-Man cartoon from the 00s was much beloved, and all recent He Man comics have been great. Especially compared to that failed 90s Space He-Man show.
Thundercats reboot gets a had wrap but is still better than the original show.
G.I.Joe is still a name known round the world with stuff still being made for it. And the most recent live action movie was okay.
G1 megatron is literally some boxes paced together with a fucking huge gun.
Hasbro contract with IDW ends Dec 2018. Not sure who will publish next. Disney wants Marvel to publish them. Possibly as an opening for Hasbro buyout.
reminder that during Coldwar/Vietnam era Hasbro changed the Joe's to have more "civilian" adventures youtube.com
Just make He-man a stealth warhammer series
>I honestly think that those awful live action movies hurt the franchise.
I heard one of them was halfway decent.
Yeah, I have no idea which one. I didn't watch any of them either.
