What the fuck happened to this show?
Is it still worth watching or catching up?

Newest season was short but pretty alright.
the writers changed from adult swim writers to fox writers so don't worry because its a disney show now.
I skipped the most recent season because, it being a dream, I figured nothing mattered. Yes, it's a comedy show. It shouldn't have to matter. But I don't want to watch a dozen episodes of "it's all a dream".
Writers ran out of ideas and are relying on cameos and whacky plots. It's not unwatchable but there's a serious dip
It stopped being good after season 3. Why the fuck did they turn a comedy about office politics and dysfunctional people into an action-comedy?
Disney hasn't officially bought Fox yet.
Dreamland was ok, Hollywood was shit.
I liked Vice a lot but most people say it's the weakest season. I just enjoyed them failing at drugs and Pam being hot. Midnight Blues was a great song for the season though.
I enjoyed them advertising a lot of things that never happened in that season. Oh wait, I fucking hated that.
Archer Vice is one of my favorite seasons and the only one my roommate will watch with me
It's been going downhill since season 3, and it's been dogshit since season 5.
Didn't even finish the last season, why the fuck would you put flashbacks in a coma dream? So fucking stupid.
funny because that was the season they ruined Pam, she'd already been declining but after that she was just downright annoying
shame because she was my favorite character in season 2
This is basically my only issue with vice, if they had have either been straight with what it was, or done what they showed, it would have been fine.
i was a die hard fanboy up until season 8. I still haven't watched anything past the first episode of season 8.
Archer Vice was so fucking bad that I wouldn't even put up with it as background noise. It's like everyone working on the show just stopped fucking caring all at once.
Vice was the moment I knew the series was dead.
Seasons 1 and 2 of Archer that used the minutia of workplace affairs as a backdrop for actual covert spy operations is mwa mwa mwa the best of the best. That's some maximum quality television with amazing oneshot characters and a colorful cast of european villains that make the Wacky Races look like a day at the box factory. I don't think we've ever had anything as close to a Team Fortress 2 show as we have seasons 1 and 2 of Archer.
But Season 3 started to get a little too self referential and the decision to abort all of the office drones removed a world of depth without adding anything to the main cast. Cheryl and Pam are funny characters who did not need to be getting so much attention, and the decisions to kill off Mikhail and lobotomize Len, the only decent foils for Malory, just let the show get more and more masturbatory.
Archer's biggest failure? Honestly? I think it's that it abides pretty strictly to the idea that it is a comedy. Like, a classical greek comedy. Where the characters never grow or change. We've been watching the same Sterling Archer since season 1 and in season 1 his incredible autistic narcissism hadn't gotten tiresome. It's been so many years of the same plots and the same jokes that all kind of meander nowhere and no matter how many batshit things happen to him, Sterling Archer is the same buffoon he's always been.
Seriously, how much better would the show be if we'd seen him actually start to come to terms with shit in any meaningful capacity, or at least show remorse or desire to change?...
Or if it stuck to the damned format and kept the cold war shenanigans going, that'd be nice too. You can just tell that everyone in the writer's room got bored and FX kept throwing money at the show.
>inb4 autistic tvtropes faggot
Archer is a show that pushed a lot of very specific buttons for me when it first came out and for some reason I find it to be an almost academic study of failure.
Fuck. You're right on the nose with this one. Getting rid of the office staff, the needless politicking, Len and Jakov etc. really did fuck the show. Trexler and ODIN were fucking great foils to the incompetence of ISIS. Seasons 1 and 2 had every line dripping with comedy, and the constant background jazz and more off-the-wall Frisky Dingo style humour made it hell of a lot more interesting to watch. It was like they all just neutered themselves for the sake of cash.
The impression that I get isn't that they neutered themselves for the sake of cash, but in SPITE of it. It was like once they realized that they could ride this Archer money to their graves, they just wanted to fuck around. I haven't gotten the impression that anyone wanted to write another episode of Archer since maybe Season 4.
God, and then, do any of you guys remember CHOZEN? Jesus fucking christ. I can't believe the legacy of Sealab 2021 went out with such a wilted whimper.
>There will never be a Skytanic-tier episode in Archer again
Pam has always been hot, low test manlet
Chozen was allright. It tried hard to do it's own thing. Didn't exactly succeed, but Chozen himself, and to a lesser extent his sister, managed to be interesting characters. Villain wasn't terrible either. Most of the rest of the cast kinda was, I admit.
Daily reminder that Archer was always extremely hit or miss and has only come into its own relatively recently once they abandoned the shackles of "reality" and started focusing on the writing teams strengths, elaborate and random joke construction not bound by the shackles of traditional story structure.
The office politics were always underdeveloped and a hindrance to the show's core, and it only started echoing Frisky Dingo truly in the latest two seasons.
Thinking you're owed character development from the creators of Sealab 2021 is your main problem.
