What are your thoughts on the "Disney Manga" line

What are your thoughts on the "Disney Manga" line.

I feel like Nao Kodaka's art is probably the best in the line, she gets both the art of "shoujo" and "disney" just right and yet the two different styles don't feel like either overwhelms the other.

>tokopop

Their library of work is one unlike any other.
Sometime's it's hard to tell of something they had was Sup Forums or Sup Forums. I will never forget stumbling across the Zack and Cody "manga" only to see that it was just screen caps from the show with speech bubbles added.

Do the Disney princesses look how Snow White and Cinderella do on that cover, or are they manga styled?

a nice middle ground

Oh my god I just remembered that there was a Highschool Musical manga! Yeah Tokyopop was seriously weird. A big amount of actual manga, then manhwa, then comicbooks that looked like manga and sometimes just actual North American comicbooks in a manga (sized) format.

>the fucking Ghostbusters manga
>it's a legitimate manga based in the Ghostbusters universe
Color me suprised, it was alright.

And what they're doing now is moving into the webcomic business as well.

Any of you here have a one uploaded to Popcomics?

So does Tokyopop even do normal manga anymore?

>tfw no vol 3 ever
Still hurts.

I have a Tokypop preview book from a FCBD many years ago. I'm looking periodically for the stories it has in it and I can't find them online anywhere. Kinda sad.

Nice indeed! That is the cutest Ariel I've ever seen. :3

Why does it seem like the artists they get draw manga in a way of "what people thing it is" as opposed to how they are?

It's hard for Westerners to draw it correctly. I think part of is that artists have their own race as their point of reference. It would explain why Chinese and Korean artists are much more adept at drawing it.

It's weird, because I couldn't tell you exactly what looks so off about it, but there's just this odd lack of cohesion to it. There's a certain vapidness to it, it looks flat despite what shading there is and lacks in perspective, the characters use stock sort of chibi faces because I guess that's what you do in manga, and it just feels Frankensteined out of stuff how-to-draw-manga books.

Even badly drawn Japanese manga doesn't look weird in the same way.

I thought this one was pretty good. I haven't read the others, though.

It's some combination of inking and coloring that makes it look off. I'd wager that the lineart looked a lot more genuine than the finished product.

The mouth on the elf is nothing like I have ever seen in manga/anime. The noses are probably original too. The blue-haired elf in the background though looks about right. There's no cohesion to anything. And something about the lines and coloring are off too yes.

I wanna kind of read these buy only because I actually liked the Tinkerbell movies (haven't seen Neverbeast yet)

The regular comics are a bit different from that one manga, so don't read one and expect the other to be similar.
Also, the most recent Disney Fairies comics seem to be more focused on the characters and appearance of the movies, rather than the cast from the older comics.

Is this Sup Forums or Sup Forums?

did they also make those star wars ones that has that nice grandpa tarkin in it?

The thread wouldn't live particularly long on Sup Forums.
