Same arguement here. Gardner's silver age shit is one of my fave DC era's next to the late 90s to early 2000s. The casual racism still sucks and really holds new readers back.

The only good GL comics have been the three back up stories by Alan Moore and Willworld by Dematteis.
I think it would be more interesting without the whole "green" thing. I mean, it would much more visually interesting if character color changed based on his emotions, like when they are angry they become red lanters, e.t.c. Let the ring express all the spectrums. The only difference must be sinestro, since his ring would depend on the emotions of others and not himself.
The problem is that so much of it is human/earth centric.
Now that we have seven human Lanterns all we see is them. Just look at the current Hal&Pals. Every single volume our first four human Lanterns are the only ones that are in any position of power, do anything and/or are shown. You have an corps of aliens. Use them!
It also doesn't help that half the stories play on Earth, the place you get to see in every other DC comic and if not they are literal coloured humans with a stupid strawman agenda (looking at you Simon and Baz).

GL kinda was my fave in TV and movies. I liked Johns run but was bored later when every arc was an event.
I decided to read past issues and they unfortunately sucked. With the exception of the silver age.
Compare it to silver and bronze age Flash, hawkman, superman, batman and even wonder woman! GL comics plain sucked balls.

I like what I've read of Wein, Englehart, and Jones. I don't care. It's entertaining, which is all I concern myself with in comics.
Downside with GL is that while Geoff Johns revitalized the franchise by bringing back Hal Jordan, he did it at the cost of most everything that came before. Most villains were replaced by rainbow lanterns, Hal's fall from grace (which most people didn't like to begin with) was retconned in an insultingly dumb way, and Hal being the Spectre (which was a cool legacy "consolation prize" of sorts) pretty much never got referenced again. Honestly, after Blackest Night, there was no direction. Blackest Night may have been an example of event mentality at the Big 2, but it was at least built up over time, and overseen properly.
I like more GL than I dislike, but it is a mess. And that mess lies mostly on Johns' shoulders. And Venditti certainly didn't help in the New 52 days.
It was retconned in an insultingly dumb way because it was executed in an insultingly dumb way. I appreciate that Johns took the Lanterns and did something fresh with them, Johns' run is the thing most modern readers get into GL with and for good reason. Up to SCW both the main GL title and Green Lantern Corps were fantastic, the problem is that once DC saw how great an alternate Corps could be in SCW they began to run the concept into the ground

I think Johns did the best he could with the Parallax retcon. Hal being influenced rather than possessed means he's responsible enough for his actions during Emerald Twilight and Zero Hour to feel remorse and occasionally be judged, but not so responsible that he can't be forgiven.
Parallax could have been lazily retconned as a double or something that 100% possessed Hal so those plots could be completely ignored, but Johns just sort of pressed the existing stories into a form that would allow more future stories.
