Also, it is supposed to be set in the 1940s....i don't think there were that many open lesbians or bisexuals at the time, especially amongst superheroes, it just feels so out of place for the time period too

If it's something more and the MC just happens to be gay (Midnighter and Apolo) are more than stereotypes and the book is more than "I'am gay hear me roar" they you'll get more appeal from your usual demos. Ennis has some surprisingly decent stories about homophobia. One of his Kev books had a great dialogue between Kev and Midnighter too.

I've read the first trade of it. I dig Epting's art, but the story makes little sense. The fact that she shares writing responsibility with Tynion, who is absolute cancer, excuses her a bit I guess.

I have to say, I was reading it expecting some lesbian sex story about how gay people love having teh sex everyday every time, but instead it was a very relatable story of crippling depression and severe loneliness, I really enjoyed it reading it, and related to her despite being a guy.

While good things are cancelled all the time, a lot of these are just cynical shallow pandering, often by writers who don't give a shit about lgbt stuff but thought it would get money from this or that demo. This thread has mentioned things with lgbt characters that are successful and it's usually because all their gay characters aren't just boring cardboard cut outs to show that the writers are "totally down" with kids today. You need actual stories and characters.
