The reconquista took 700 years and Spain had ample time to slowly improve itself, added to the fact that at the time, the Moors were improving Iberia technologically and economically, albeit not culturally. They were fairly liberal with citizens and their beliefs, unlike other parts of the Muslim world.

When i visited Florence, Venice, Zurich i saw some beautiful sites, but the atmosphere was very artificial and touristy.
