Hey OP.
I finished reading the Giffen era of 5YL and decided to check out the old threads from 2015. Hilariously, the desuarchive seems to have been down between June-October 2015, and the last 5YL storytime that you did WAS Giffens last issue (timed perfectly).
A few things that I noticed was that these threads used to be a lot happier, and people weren't totally shitting on Johns yet (I think Darkseid War had just started).

5YL is complicated, and I think we had some very interesting discussions about the particular pitfalls of the Bierbaums' very old-school fannishness

I saw someone suggest Tom Taylor for a potential JSA writer since I guess he's been using Wildcat in Injustice 2 and I wanted to hate them to death

I liked it, even though it was relentlessly bleak towards a lot of characters. I think it helps knowing that the entire thing got wiped from continuity quickly afterwards, so I could read it as a grim space dystopia instead of "the future of the Legion."

Also, the costume design for the BSG reboot looks like it could have been influenced by it.

Johns writes a schlocky follow-up to Watchmen and now it's cool to bash him in every god damn thread. Surface-level cape fanboys coming out of the woodwork with the HOT TAKE that Johns is actually an uninspired hack. Usually they kept themselves contained to plebby shit like Batman threads, but now that he's ruining "babbys first deep comic", the bitching has reached critical mass. It isn't 2006. It's like shitting on Michael Bay or Nickleback, no one is impressed. Just a smug circlejerk over a dried-up well.

The weirdest thing I saw recently was someone trying to say that he was responsible for Doom Patrol and Animal Man being moved out of the editorial powers of Vertigo and back into the regular DCU, which ignores that the Animal Man and DP Vertigo runs had been cancelled for a decade prior to Infinite Crisis.

Someone else (it could have been the same person) also declared that Johns had never written the DP, when he had in reality brought the Morrison run back into continuity after Byrne rebooted it

Ah, the late 80s/early 90s. Peak DC, in my opinion. The golden age of the prestige mini. Plenty of great mature titles, even though Vertigo wasn't officially a thing until '93. Editorial also hadn't come up with the brilliant idea to kill Superman, cripple Batman, and drive Green Lantern insane yet.
