I wish Callie was the mayor's secretary instead of "deputy mayor", whatever that slightly odd title indicates, since it makes her more badass. If she's in some officer of the city she has a general responsibility to the well-being of the city so she's fulfilling her duty when she tries to fight the monster of the week, but if she was just fired to type and do filing she's going way above and beyond her remit to be heroic.
It would also change the tone of that scene where she basically calls Commander Feral a dumb asshole to his face since she'd be the plucky woman in the office speaking up instead of his superior berating him regardless of his constant strenuous efforts.
