But I wished the storyboarders kept that design so anyone who hasn’t figured out yet that Marco and Star balance each other out by bringing out the best and worst of each other. Then again I dig the current design for Marco’s wand so I can’t complain too much.

It's supposed to be a random occurrence, not something predetermined, just like in most anime where soulmates meet, but it's all kismet. By forcing this, we're reducing Star vs. to that one shitty VN where the main character is a descendant of God who impregnates a woman of every alien species because of how virile he is, despite believing he's just a normal human until he's 16 and an alien girl tells him otherwise.

Regardless of the changling situation, Festivia was still appointed queen, and while she may not be a "Butterfly" and still come from common stock, her queenship is essentially a new dynasty being put into place. Except it worked. Marco was the safest kid everyone in the school knew, and Star was a stranger who exhibited signs of what humans call autism, since no one knew what to make of her. She easily makes friends, and Marco was her first "Earth friend", so she latched on to him, especially when he finally consented to let her stay at his house. Within the context of the show, it works. Marco being a long-lost Butterfly doesn't make sense in the context of the show.

Sometimes, yeah. I mean, everyone knows the highschool setting is one of the most generic settings there is, but that's because it's something people can relate to, a way to make the experiences in the show's universe relatable. On the other hand, I think the concept itself was thoroughly exhuasted: I'm not sure what other "fish out of water in a highschool setting" plots they could have done into a new school year. So, I can understand why it was left behind, though I do wish we had more time focused on the Earth side characters instead of them being used for little more than gags.
