Artist who do this shit are the fucking worst.

Wah I can't easily get things for free.

It’s more about the principal. If you expect me to pay for shit, that in all likelihood is inferior to your newest stuff, why should I bother?

Well, user never said artists shouldn't be paid for their work.

I also find it assholish if an artist also hides everything behind a paywall. That's horrible business practice. How can an artist keep people interested in their work if they never update their gallery?

I love doing that. Done it like 3 times. Thinking of doing it again real soon.

>create series about X
>build fanbase for a few years by being consistent
>popularity reaches threshold level
>"Now I have a platform I'm gonna tell the stories I always WANTED to tell"
>completely changes series to reflect some fucking political agenda, pretty much killing it entirely
Protip, start from the beginning writing the story you "wanted" to write. Everyone remembers this bait and switch shit as "That one series that was good until the creator went batshit". And if that story you really "wanted" to write doesn't isn't as popular, guess it was a SHITTY FUCKING STORY, wasn't it? Assholes.

>create some small parody comics
>makes you into a known artist instead of being another no-name on DA
>create some webcomic
>it's nowhere near as popular as the small parody comics, the fanbase those comics made possible are now asking for more
>get massively butthurt that your magnum opus is ignored in favor of some joke comics, pull them off the internet and send takedown notices to anyone who posts them because FUCK YOU FOR LIKING THE STUFF I MADE THAT I DON'T LIKE AS MUCH AS MY CURRENT STUFF HOW DARE YOU?!
Hiimdaisy is a fucking waste of oxygen. Most artists come to regret their most famous work, since that's all most fans want, but most artists are capable of giving their fans what they want and not acting like a child, grabbing the ball, and running away. It's one thing to say "Hey, I don't care about this old stuff, so I won't be making more." It's another to throw a tantrum anytime someone asks about a comic they enjoyed.

oh no i am mad now whatever will i do oh no

>finally get around to download a comic to storyime on Sup Forums
>only to find out it's been deleted with no archives because the guy wanted to do a reboot

Every other business makes customers pay for their products. No other industry gives away stuff after X amount of time.

>hiimdaisy
Missed the train on that guy, what happened?

I don't get this either. The most popular piece of art I've ever done has 250,000 notes on tumblr. It's a shitty steven universe meme I made years ago in about five minutes. My webcomic gets nowhere near that amount of attention.

But I'm not going to take it down, because why would I? People like it. Even if I don't any more, if someone else gets enjoyment out of it what's the harm?

Makes me glad I found a website that had her archive, and saved every picture on it in case it was shut down.

DEAD.

Oh, well they just said so:

“Throws a tantrum every time someone mentions their old art.”

you're acting like Sup Forums cares, instead ya chose to waist your post image with a reaction image

>>Artist purges their gallery
Good thing I saved all the nudes

>really good artist/artist you like switches to NSFW out of nowhere

>Artists bitch about criticism in comics
>Blocks people from their profile when they provide positive criticism
>Call them trolls if they post criticism elsewhere

Can I see it?

He were some no-name artist doing quick anime scribbles. One day he made some parody comic of Metal Gear Solid or Persona, and it had some funny jokes, and people liked it. He went on to create more parody comics since it was getting him attention, covering more MGS and Persona games. Once decently popular, he created some webcomic, I can't remember the name right now. It was mostly ignored since it had none of the humor that made the parody comics worth reading, and the artwork wasn't really a grabber either, and the writing was bland as shit. Fans kept asking for more parody comics since those were actually good, and hiimdaisy flipped out and deleted all the parody comics from the internet, and even threatened legal action against people who posted them.

He can't write very well, or draw very well, and only had a fanbase because he could do some funny parodies of other IP's. But he wants to believe he's either a good writer or artist instead, so here we are.

>artist moves to California to study animation
>comes back as a "biromantic pansexual WoC"
>adopts stereotypically tumblr-ish blobby, pastel-colored, Diverse new artstyle
>works turn more and more politically-minded
>even old works get retconned and remade Diverse

I mean, I have nothing against gays, but when profiles suddenly start including a "my pronouns are..." entry, that's where I draw the line.

>artist draws dicks notably more massive after your commission/request involving that type

not him but I had a friend who made an ironic tumblr-tier picture of an overwatch character that had sparkle hair, vitiligo and all the other shit that the majority of tumblr is obsessed with. Dude posted it for shits and giggles and it got over 1,000 notes because retards ate it up. They ended up deleting the post because people kept wanting more of it.

>pronouns, self deprecation shit and "I guess I draw sometimes" followed by a wall of reposted shitty memes or politics
At least make a separate blog for your art and have some more confidence in your work

>artist hates the idea of fame and exclusively posts anonymously, not even showing his closest friends their work
>artist has been browsing Sup Forums for so long that the idea of being responsible for an identity that has all their works attached to it frightens them
>artist is so jaded they don't even bother responding "No" when people ask for a link to their blog
>artist fears the day they, for financial reasons, have to actually pick out a pen name.

I hope csimadmax is okay somewhere ;_;

>Posts art exclusively between the 5 accounts
Nani? Porque?

Attached: 1493661975108.gif (206x240, 45K)

I hate artists and showrunners that use their main blog to post controversial shit.

Why don't they have separate blogs like, "Twitter/AlexThinks" and keep their main blog to their professional work and updates on their show or whatever?

To me, it's the same principle as when an artist has a blog for their own work, one for FAQ, and one for inspiration for organized purposes, and so you don't confuse their inspirations for things they drew themselves.

Attached: 1515586306313.png (639x765, 814K)

Who are you referring to?

>Not using your popularity in a specific field to discuss your opinions on something completely unrelated
Get outta here, moralfag, this is artists we're talking about. Office rules like "No discussion of politics/religion" have no meaning to them

>but when profiles suddenly start including a "my pronouns are..." entry, that's where I draw the line.
That's my warning sign. They may as well say, "Earth is 5000 years old and flat" because I'll look at them just as strangely.

I just want to hear about the Gravity Falls comic update without having to read about how we should ban guns while fucking Trump. ;_;

>he likes the artist fucking over their original vision with how they feel in "the now"
don't you pull that "artists evolve" shit

I learned a long, long time ago to save every image I liked immediately because this shit happens way too often - especially furry artists.

>>he likes
Sarcasm can't be heard over the internet, so lemme just say I fucking hate it as much as you

The webcomic they’re working on is Cucumber Quest.

oh shit, I knew I recognized the style from cucumber quest. Shame it is boring, literally nothing happens

same

At the very least they should make a separate blog for it. I used to run into this problem with a porn tumblr I followed. In between the porn there'd be anti-circumcision and pro-2nd-amendment posts.

Like, even though I agree with those positions, I don't want to read political shit while I'm trying to masturbate.

>artist starts doing nothing but furry commissions

I mean I know there's mad money in it because furfags for whatever reason always have tons of disposable income that they are more than willing to throw in every direction, but is it really worth compromising your integrity as an artist and resigning yourself to drawing intricately detailed knots for the rest of your career?

Not according to the furries who shill artists into doing furry porn for them here

>Studying animation as a generalist

I have seen so many people in my art school who don't know what they want to work as specifically and most of them end up freelancing straight out of college. It is sad, desu.

Yup.

What places do you guys normally go for art?

I'm an artist who is kind of experienced, but also lost. I made a decision in taking my art forward this year, but I don't follow many artists except for instagram and some on twitter. I want to know from you Sup Forums what platforms do you use to follow your fav artists? Do you pay them anything, support on patreon or things like that?

Twitter is a go to. just go on a follow spree

>is it really worth compromising your integrity as an artist and resigning yourself to drawing intricately detailed knots for the rest of your career?

You better fucking believe it.

>but is it really worth compromising your integrity as an artist
If their integrity prior to that meant they had zero income, then probably.

>drawing intricately detailed knots for the rest of your career?
It's not impossible for an artist to escape their past work. Hell, it's one of the reasons why people delete their entire gallery to begin with.

It's only if you're someone like Dobson who is such an asshole people REFUSE to let him escape his past does that happen.

Not really the artists fault but
>You need an account to see all of an artists stuff

Attached: 1475602225582.jpg (800x587, 43K)

An artist I've followed on and off for awhile literally just did this a week ago. Started doing NSFW out of the blue and people are sucking his dick over it even though the NSFW is lazy and sketchy compared to their normal stuff.

>Artist inserts his fetish into EVERYTHING

Attached: 1493411752563.png (353x353, 76K)

>But its my fetish

Attached: yes.gif (356x200, 1.43M)

>It's not impossible for an artist to escape their past work

I'd say it's incredibly difficult unless the artist is really thorough and meticulous about it. They can nuke their galleries, but that doesn't stop people from saving and reposting the work elsewhere. You're right though. There are artists people will oblige when they want to put it all past them and move on. Then there are people like Dobson who basically provided their detractors with a weapon that will hold them down forever.

Can I complain about artist's fans for a moment?
>Artist posts complaint/personal issues on blog
>Fans pick up their pitch fork and torches and attack whoever dare wrong their precious artist until person
>A) Deletes account;
>B) Sends a counter-army; or
>C) Cries about how bad their home life is and how dare you do this to them, their dog just died and they're literally shaking and they cut themself after being sober for a month

>Purge my gallery every spring on the same day every year
Spring cleaning son

Attached: 763182.png (560x466, 491K)

>Artist has their own defense-force
They are always the biggest problem. All they do is enable and think that the artist is the second coming, meanwhile anyone who says something bad about their art is some heretic or someone who doesn't know anything about art
The artist can't improve without criticism. When you go protecting them like their a baby they start acting like one and all of a sudden a gentle autumn breeze cuts they like razors

It was this one. Literally did this in just a couple of minutes and it's the most popular thing I've ever done. Memes are weird.

>the same day every year

They know when it is by now

>artist inserts his avatar into everything

bonus points for furry avatars

Attached: 1520731062491.png (398x309, 122K)

Oh my fucking god those are the worst
Furry or not, I don't need your avatar in fucking EVERYTHING

Attached: 1513737854471.jpg (363x463, 22K)

Yes. You can churn them out at $60 a pop if you're halfway decent. Do one a day and you'll never run out of clients. I was able to quit my job because of furry commissions. I'd do one in about 2-3 hours and use the rest of my day to work on passion projects. Furries are a godsend to artists.

>artist thinks he's funny

Attached: 1448433315331.png (720x540, 656K)

>ut is it really worth compromising your integrity as an artist and resigning yourself to drawing intricately detailed knots for the rest of your career?
If it brings in a steady income, yes
Furries are ridiculously rich. And if you're decent/good, you can hit $40-$60 a piece

>But it's a fetish blog

>When you find an artist that shares your tastes

>Artist draws for your fetish

It's all fun and games when an artist draws characters on-model until they do some really NSFW stuff

People like to spend money on their hobbies. I collect comic books. Furries like to acquire pictures of animal men fucking each other. People like to spend money on what makes them happy.

Attached: 1491181530745.jpg (247x253, 16K)

Can confirm. Dirt poor but spent ~$1200 on furshit and commissions

>Artists shouldn’t be able to make money off their art
I don’t much like paywalls either but they gotta eat too
But locking everything behind a paywall is dumb, yeah. Update your gallery that everyone can see from time to time, otherwise you’re being unreasonable. I mean, they’ve still got the right to do that, but they shouldn’t

>is it really worth compromising your integrity as an artist
California is expensive as fuck son
I can't live off of solely one income as a Disney animator

>artist draws on model fetish art using characters you're attracted to

>disney animator doing furry commissions

Is there a reason why they're all tech-oriented?
Does technology make you a furry?

>Follow artist because they draw your fetish exactly how you love it

>Missile Defense Systems Architect

Attached: 1496464072909.jpg (1260x1680, 98K)

here's my biggest two besides what you mentioned;

>artist never consistently uploads all their art anywhere(Van, Pennicandies, Dustin, and quite a few other Sup Forums & /aco/ artists are guilty as hell of this)

>artist vastly overvalues their commission rates(for example a B&W single character sketch should never cost more than maybe 10 bucks at the absolute most unless they have a very detailed style and/or do very clean sketches)

Autism, man.
You gotta have a bit of the 'tism to properly do that kind of work. It helps you focus obsessively on not fucking up, which is important for those kinds of jobs. It also means you'll be obsessed with your hobbies, which is why they go on to spend all that money they make on fursuits and commissions.

Autists are more likely to be in STEM fields.

>My teacher could be a furry
>My doctor could be a furry
Huh, never thought about that. I'm gonna stop thinking about that

>for example a B&W single character sketch should never cost more than maybe 10 bucks at the absolute most unless they have a very detailed style and/or do very clean sketches

A decent "sketch" takes a lot more time than you probably think it does, user. And if the artist is in demand for such sketches, they're within their right to charge that much.

Attached: 1467003768751.jpg (500x375, 44K)

Fursuits are fucking expensive, from what I've heard. So there's basically a high cost of entry for the fetish, weeding out all the poorfags.

>Air force
