Sidekicks that work better as the heroes

>Sonic the Hedgehog is a terrible protagonist and this franchise should've been called Tails the Fox.

>The worst choice Sega ever made was creating a duo consisting of a child super-genius/flying mutant fox/inventor/freedom fighter and a guy who runs fast and picking the guy who runs fast to center the story around. That's like making Polka-Dot Man the main focus of Batman. Compared to Tails Sonic the Hedgehog is a weak protagonist in every regard, and I can prove it.

>First up is intelligence. Despite his young age, Tails (according to the comics) has an even higher IQ than Robotnik, although he lacks the doctor's experience. He can pilot anything from submarines to spaceships, build a working television out of paperclips, reprogram super computers using nothing but detergent and a toothpick, clone chaos emeralds (y'know, only the most powerful objects in the Sonic universe. Yeah, just gloss on over that, Sonic X.), and apparently knew how to make voice chips when he was 2 years old. If McGyver, Bill Nye, Data, Gyro Gearloose, Da Vinci, Bulma's dad, Gadget, Penny, and Spock all merged into a single being, Tails would (somehow) be the result.

>Second is physical ability. Even if Tails were as dumb as Sonic, he could still become Turbo Tails (which is even stronger than Super Sonic, again, if you go by the comics) and Titan Tails (though frankly I wish this wasn't a thing...) and seems to fly just as fast as Sonic can run. Not only that but the gift of flight means that unlike Sonic, Tails can't be impeded by stuff like high walls, water barriers, mine fields, lava, megamuck, or the absence of solid ground to run on.

>So remind me why Mobius' survival hinges solely upon Sonic's existence again?

>"But Tails isn't as brave as Sonic, that's why he's the sidekick!"

>Is he? Because apparently he was brave enough to conduct a solo mission to infiltrate Eggman's base, disarm a nuke, and defeat the doctor himself on several occasions without the aid of a mech or a blue hedgehog, and that was just Sonic Adventure, never mind all the stuff he's done in subsequent appearances.

>"He's only brave now because of Sonic's influence, without Sonic he'd lack courage and self-esteem!"

>Oh? Even though Tails Adventure and Sky Patrol took place prior to Tails' friendship with Sonic, and in those games he single handedly saves an island, defeats an army, downs several pilots, and an evil sorceress? In Tails Adventure he looks like he's barely out of diapers and already he's fighting a gorilla war against an army of black-stahlhelm-wearing bird Nazis with night vision goggles, remote controlled robots, bombs, and napalm.

>Yeah, you heard me, Sonic has the Spin Dash, Tails has f!@#ing napalm. :stare:

>Third is character design. I know this one's subjective, but am I the only one who's still weirded out by Sonic's freakish perpetually-angry-looking mono-eye despite having 23 years to adjust to it? I never understood his popularity. It's not bad, but Sonic's design just doesn't catch my eye the same way Tails' does. From the moment I first played Sonic 2 something about his bright orange fur, big innocent eyes, and swishing twin tails immediately drew my attention despite Sonic being the one in the limelight.

>Number four is potential. Sonic doesn't have much potential as a character, and he's just not very interesting. How does he defeat his foes? He runs fast. How does he overcome puzzles or obstacles? Runs fast. How does he cope with emotional hardship? Runs. How does he overcome a superior foe? He becomes Super Sonic and runs super fast. Not only that but if you go by Sonic X he's as strong as Knuckles, can survive a drop that would make meat pudding out of a human, breath in space, is conveniently smart when the plot calls for it, and is extremely popular and gets all the ladies. Sonic is the Patron Saint of Gary Stu-ishness. You pretty much know what you're in for when you watch/read/play anything Sonic-related, he's going to barrel his way through everything, fart out a bunch of un-funny mono-inflection catchphrases, and win. Tails on the other hand, because he can't Deus Ex Machina his way out of every problem, actually has to use his head to solve them. Most Sonic games don't do much to keep the experience fresh, frankly it feels like the game is playing you, but in the few Tails games there were we do see some diversity in the gameplay. In Tails Adventure you often had to stop and think before you did something, it wasn't just "go fast to win!" it was more like "hmm, should I use the robot, the submarine, the night vision goggles, or the F!@#ING NAPALM." :stare:

>And reason number five in the list of reasons why Tails is a better protagonist than Sonic, Tails has a better personality and nobler objectives. In Tails' theme song, Believe in Myself, the lyrics detail the young fox's aspirations of becoming a better, stronger, more individualistic person worthy of peoples trust and friendship. Unusually mature for someone his age. On the flip side Sonic's theme song, It Doesn't Matter, is basically Sonic bragging about what a great guy he is and that he never reflects on his actions nor does he care what's wrong or right because he just wants to get his own way. Sounds more like a 4-year-old throwing a temper tantrum than the hero of Mobius' inner monologue. The only versions of Sonic I like are the ones that don't talk, every time he opens his mouth he makes himself sound like a douche. Not even one of those fun, quirky, forgivable semi-douches either, I mean an irredeemable King Douche. There's a difference between being a little arrogant and standoffish but otherwise a good guy, and telling your best friend's parents to their faces that their only son would be okay with his mother and father going to jail forever because "I know you're his real family, but he grew up with me. Heck, the kid practically worships me! He'll get over it." Yes, that is actually a thing Sonic did in the comics.

>I'm sorry, did I say Sonic was a King Douche? I meant Douche Deity.

>I'm sorry, did I say Sonic was a King Douche? I meant Douche Deity.

>"So some Archie writer had it out for Sonic, he was an upstanding guy and a loyal friend in most of his appearances." Nope. Taking all the games, movies, shows and comics into consideration, so far Sonic has:

>1. Told Tails to shut up while he was screaming for Sonic's help during a life-threatening situation (OVA)
>2. Sent Tails, who sounded too young to tie his shoes at the time, to rescue an old man from a burning plane because he was busy getting a tan. (OVA)
>3. Dragged a very young Tails with him to the extremely dangerous Robotropolis because he didn't want to bother taking him back to Knothole cause that'd take like 2 minutes. (Satam)
>4. Made a fellow Freedom Fighter believe he'd been abandoned in Robotropolis as a joke. (Satam)
>5. Trashed the same Freedom Fighter's home while staying as a guest and physically threatened his host when he threw Sonic's filthy shoes, which were dripping with mud, outside. (Satam)
>6. Trusted his arch enemy's opinion over Tails' opinion. (Games)
>7. Knowingly put his planet in danger by secretly sitting in on a conversation even while being fully conscious of the fact that listening to said conversation would give the evil cyborg recording all his thoughts step by step instructions on how to destroy the world. (OVA)

>8. Cheats on his girlfriend with Tails' love interest. (Comic)
>9. Tells Tails he only sucked face with his love interest for Tails' own good. (Comic)
>10. Insults Tails' father while Tails and his mother are both within earshot. (Comic)
>11. Teased, insulted, and antagonized another best friend, Knuckles, for the fun of it knowing there would be a violent outburst. (Anime)
>12. Normally shuns but occasionally flirts with his fangirl, Amy Rose, seemingly for no other reason than to get her hopes up. (Anime)
>13. Puts the princess of Mobius and the Knothole Freedom fighters' lives in jeopardy on countless occasions due to either impulsiveness or the urge to stuff his face. (Satam)

>There's more, but I think you get the picture: with a hero like this, who needs villains? If you ask me, Sonic should've been the little brother taking hero lessons from Tails.

>Sufferin' sig runes I needed that... I've been holding it in since 1992!

I dont know what’s worse, the fact that you were autistic enough to write all of this, or the fact that when I skimmed through it, i saw you were autistic enough to take the shit Archie Comics as canon.

Meanwhile OPs image is distractingly from that furry nazi. You know the one.

Tails should have been a girl.

Tails deserve a good slap on his ass.

Take your autism elsewhere

>How does he defeat his foes? He runs fast.
Nigga Sonic specifically avoids running into enemies, he jumps on them and spindashes into them because that's the only way he can damage them.
>How does he overcome puzzles or obstacles? Runs fast.
No, he solves puzzles like a normal individual does, he just does so quickly because they're often timed and he has the benefit of speed on his side.
>How does he cope with emotional hardship? Runs.
Fucking what? One of the most retarded things about modern Sonic games is the fact that he goes through stupid cutscenes with slow, plodding melodrama. He has not once "run fast" in response to the stupid-ass drama he's presented with.
>How does he overcome a superior foe? He becomes Super Sonic and runs super fast.
This is true, although 9 times out of 10 he has to go Super Sonic because the superior foe is in fucking space and he can't survive in the vaccuum without Super mode.

How fucking autistic are you?
No.

Honestly no idea if this is OC but if it is, congratulations on your crippling autism and have fun with your lifetime supply of disability checks OP.

I didn't bother reading the entire essay but you got me thinking. If tails was the protagonist and his game was focused more around platforming and on the rail arcade shooting like starfox instead of sonic speed MAYBE the series may have been better off. Its complete speculation but back in the day sonic's main advantage over mario games was the fast pace gameplay but over time that also became the franchise's biggest weakness since sonic games are difficult to pull off.

This is what happens when Archiefags get too big for their britches.

I didn't bother reading most of this, but the designs in the OP pic are cool.

FemTails is cute.

Absolute autism

I wonder who could be behind this thread.

Before I clicked on that pic, I thought it was Grounder with a big drill dick.

That picture looks like it's Tails's gay fantasy.

Who the hell are you quoting?

As much as I like tails you are autistic as fuck.

Wew, even sparky is not that autistic.

I never realized how Tails is pretty much an original character donut steel walking stereotype.
Should have stayed as airplane pilot only.

Moar of this!

Post more Dagasi

Now, this is interesting.

Is this porn?

Completely ignoring the TL;DR that seems copied out of DA and OP's designs that look kind of dumb, for the sake of discussion, yeah, Tails deserves better than to be regulated in Sidekick tier.

He's had his own games that weren't too bad and showed he could work on his own, and his character (when handled well) works as a good "coming of age" thing, where he grows as strong, if not stronger, than Sonic, his older role model. Not enough to take over the franchise, but he's been there since the beginning and if SEGA had the balls they could've had more spin-offs or at least a consistent character.

Tails breaks platforming over his knee, there'd be even less of it than with Sonic.

Pilot/Mechanic is top tier multiclassing tbqh.

It's almost like video games are about gameplay first.
Jesus, fuck Sonic autists.

Literally gave sonic Boobs implants

That one's even uglier.

He already has the epic that he deserves on Tails Get Trolled;

Yeah, I'd go with that.

>Sonic has a swastika on his knee.

Where?

There's a few good Archie comics.
Mostly the ones that are simple goofy kid adventures.

I agree, 1-50 were good. then it started getting weird with Penders' echidna fetish
