Been on a mission to play all of the main titles in the series
Just bought pic related
What am I in for?
Been on a mission to play all of the main titles in the series
Corridor > cutscene > Corridor > cutscene Corridor > cutscene > suddenly a bit chalenging fight that will caught you off guard.
Looks and sounds good tho
man this box art sucks
So same as all the old FFs.
So terrible that they did it for its two sequels
Pretty much this.
I really liked the battle system though.
No, not even close. Other FF's allowed even a little bit of deviation.
I kinda agreed with that but then I remembered that every single FF has terrible boxart - at least after VI.
VII-XV all have terrible cover art.
I liked to imagine that I was part of the group and we would be camping together in tents while on Pulse and me and Vanille would be in the same tent and she would take her boots off and her feet would smell and she would giggle shyly but I would say it's okay but secretly be masturbating furiously to the smell
...
My life has been made worse because of this post.
The plot makes no sense and the terminology is confusing
...
Opinions vary on the combat system i liked it at times, but there's a good chance that you'll be fucking sick of it long before the game lets you actually get into the meat of it. Most of the characters are fairly one-note and overly melodramatic. The best way to understand what the fuck happened in a cutscene is to go into the in-game wiki and read a better written and more detailed version of the cutscene you just watched. The entire game takes place in a tube surrounded by pretty scenery.
ok I'm gonna attempt to defend the design choices behind FFXIII and try to explain why it is the way it is(outside of Square just being lazy, which is kind of common) wish me luck
the game starts out and you're on Cocoon, a world that is essentially laid out to be the higher class of individuals and gives everyone an opportunity to live a comfortable life of convenience, however anyone who is deemed a pulse L'Cie is suddenly thrust into the position where they have no future and are simply lead to their deaths. your party become L'Cie within about an hour of the game started and are thus branded as enemies of Cocoon and must either find the Fal'Cie and kill the bastard or simply escape the planet, this leads them on a quest to go do the shit they need to do before they embark on this suicide mission that they know they have to do. also they'll die if they don't complete their focus so you know they've got a time limit and shit.
the reason the game is completely made up of corridors until you reach Pulse(where the game finally feels at least a little open and more reminiscent of RPGs) is because of this constant threat looming above them, they have no other options but the one that they're doing. even when they think there is a choice to be made, it's all an illusion outside of
>kill the Fal'Cie/leave Cocoon/overthrow the Cocoon government? which isn't happening
or
>be murdered/commit suicide
I mean ffs the place is literally called Cocoon, it's a tightly sealed off place that they're stuck in until they can escape and find freedom in Pulse, where they find that they still have blood flowing through their veins and they are human after all
tl;dr it may have been a thematic choice to make Cocoon a bunch of corridors but as cool as an idea that is Square made it come off as if they were just a bunch of incompetent fucks who didn't know when to have the game fully open up to the player
Good music, good battle system, completely linear corridor levels.
The game starts off piss easy and then suddenly spikes up around the time you get to Gran Pulse
>>FF13 -
Corridor -> Fight, repeat forever, until Chapter 11 when suddenly the game becomes 500x better and open-ended, and then back into corridors for another 2 hours or so and then credits. The game performs best in the open-world segment specifically accessed right at the tail end of the game.
>>FF13-2
More open-ended, think FF13 meets Pokemon meets Ni No Kuni. Travel through time fixing hurt feelings, doing weird tasks and resolving 'paradoxes'; you play as Serah, hunting Lightning down who's MIA following the seemingly good ending of the first game. Easily the best game in the '13 series'. Pretty good game actually, despite some weirdness.
>FF13-3
The grand finale of trash. Arguably 'best combat', as it's mostly an ARPG and you only play as Lightning at all times, but there's active time blocking and an engaging mechanic or two in store. The great problem of this game is that the entire game is on a timetable, you're constantly fighting against a clock that never stops (You can manage it via limited resources you can farm for, etc). It isn't so much that the clock element actually ruins the game, but if you're at all min/maxy or proficient, it will constantly eat away at your enjoyment and you'll never be able to just pause and enjoy the game. You're always tick tick tock tock on to the next objective and pre-planned, because there's a doom-clock you can't escape for the ENTIRE GAME.
Altogether, 13 is weak. You can see where they tried to make something unique and interesting, and how it logically progresses from 12 (Gambits -> Paradigms), but somewhere along the line it fell off the bus during design and ended up a contrived piece of shit where you press X and the game plays itself.
Most of 13, 13-2, and 13-3 can be completed with minimal input from the player, and unfortunately, the entire series became derailed and singularly focused on "Lightning is so FUKIN KEWL"
FFX is a corridor for the entire game. I don't know why it doesn't get any shit for that but this does.
A pretty good game honestly.
it's because FFX did a few things differently
>it doesn't give you all the characters right from the beginning
>it has different camera angles outside of the typical third-person shooter angle
>the story is a lot more compelling than just WE WUZ CURSED N SHIET
also it was the first PS2 FF so everyone was shitting a break about REAL-TIME FACIAL ANIMATIONS and VOICE ACTING, not to mention the fact that FFX has so much post-game content(especially in the international release) while in 13 you can't even go back to more than half of the areas in the game, not that you would ever need to in the first place(which is also a huge problem, no area feels all that important until you hit Pulse)
Okay, I think XIII's story is retarded, but seriously? X has a compelling story? It technically does but you play as a literal retard and all the "You're actually a dream of the Fayth but you're imperfect and uhhhhh stuff" is just stupid. It adds nothing.
Nonsensical story.
Pretty graphics.
Awful battle system.
The world's most tropey and lazily written characters.
Par for the course with modern FF games.
I liked X's
In FFXIII you didn't have all the characters at once until late in the game anyway. There's also a fair amount of post game content. I only agree on the fact that you can't go back to all of those pretty early game areas but FFX is still very railroaded.
trash, but you got through 2 and 8 so you may as well go through with it. 15 will also be shitty, assuming you're not playing 14
Corridors
A difficulty curve that's out of this world.
20 hours of slow and easy story followed by stonewalls as you're forced to learn the system
Big focus on characterization compiled with terrible and unlikeable characters that aren't Sazh
Terrible terrible terrible terrible fucking translation job that literally demands you play this game in Japanese if you don't want to read about what the fuck is going on
All in all, the battle system towards the second half of the game is good. Fang is alright and Sazh is the only human in the team, but everybody else just sort of fucking sucks. Also the blot and the main antagonists plans and motivations are so convoluted and stupid that you're going to start stumbling all over logic bombs
Still as a game it's actually not bad and the production values and especially music are great. So expect a solid 6-7/10 game.
dog compelling doesn't have to mean good, it means it gives you a drive to continue playing through it
yes the story is still pretty fucking dumb once you get to the end, but it's still COMPELLING enough to get you that far. the whole shit with Jecht being Sin is an ohfuck.jpg moment and you can't tell me you didn't feel that way your first time playing the game
because FFX does everything better than 13 outside of graphics
the writing is shit in X (like most FF games) but the worldbuilding is neat (like most FF games), 13's worldbuilding is all in datalogs and wasted
I would argue that Hope is decently human, I mean yes he's a retard crybaby but he still reacts how a retard crybaby would react in most situations
Sazh is the best character tho, chocobro 4 lyfe
>the remake banner of 2, 8, 13
The original 2 is shit
8 is pleb filter
and 13 is a slightly below average game
Calling it irredeemable trash is childish.
Because FFX areas have at least a little bit of exploration and the combat system is far superior.
not all of us are easily amused
Not all of us get our opinions from other people.
>be square enix
>perfect turn based combat with X, have X-2 modify off it and still be good
>throw it in the trash immediately after for stupid bullshit
I played 8 when you were probably in your diapers
I played 8 on release when I was in my senior year. You were what? 12? 13?
oh yeah well I played 8 when I was well over 40 and paying off my second mortgage, checkmate shitlords
>36 years old and still defending FF8
wow
Maybe when you get older you'll learn to develop opinion on your own.
I wish I could say the same for you but it seems like you're a lost cause at this point
>Bitch n the box art, not even present most of the game
Why do you hate it?
I know you attempted to sound clever but like an unpopular fantasy is the exact opposite of aping on other people's opinions. And it's not peacocking either because that would mean I'm saying that the original FF2 was a good game.
Still this is sort of a waste of time so have fun with your thread.
nice job ruining a semi-decent thread you bunch of shitters
>waaaah why do you have a different opinion than mine I bet you're y-younger than me!
grow the fuck up you lot
I liked XIII. Early parts are like IV where you have to deal with bizarre party combinations that force you to learn the system.
Combat has a high ceiling but a low requirement: You could mash auto battle and get by most of the fights, or you can try each encounter as a puzzle to earn 5 stars by using all the back end synergies.
It's a beautiful game. The sound track is a catchy mix of bubblegum dance tracks and epic boss battle music. The characters aren't as fun as other Final Fantasies but they all kind of grew on me.
Crystarium isn't truly customizable but it does let you choose when to level and what to level first to keep the challenge up and the battle point penalties low. The dungeon design is unfortunate but it does change things up often enough. The lore is pretty neat, especially as the series progresses.
The most complex game in the series. Every little subtle dialogue and facial movement adds to the characters. The game is full of paradoxes and emotions. It's okay if you don't understand it. Not a lot of people do.
tl;dr the combat is shit and so is the story. The only good thing is the ost
>Every little subtle dialogue and facial movement adds to the characters.
I agree, reading the datalog really gave me a sense of what they actually wanted to do but couldn't be fucked to put in the proper efforts to do during the cutscenes themselves.
Nah. No datalog required. It's just very japanesey. An example is when Gadot points the gun at Snow early on and he freaks out. That's a lot of character development in a single scene with no words. But it's done very subtly so if you didn't pay attention, it might come off as just a random scene to you. And the game is full of these.
A good game and quality keeps getting better with each game of the triology. Also you can tell these kiddos that accuse the game of being shit suck at at it because they had trouble with some of the bosses.Though not gonna lie I did look up one boss battle.I looked up how to beat "The Proudclad" first time you see him, you shouldn't stagger it and just use com/com/med the entire battle.
m8 if you wanna lick Lightning's armpits you can just say so. Not like people are shy about saying it around here
The story is Sup Forums tier and rightwing conspiracy theory territory.
The gameplay is grind.
