I already have storage from another build. Is more than 8gb really necessary if I'm only going to be playin' vidyer? Should I be worried about that compatibility issue? And is the Ryzen 3 really strong enough for 1080p/1440p gaming? It doesn't meet recommended requirements for quite a few games coming out recently and I want it to last for at least a few years (I'm still using a Phenom X4 from 2009). Would a Ryzen 5 1600x be a safer bet?
>Should I be worried about that compatibility issue? No, Scythe heatsinks adapters have AM4 compatibility. >R3 for gaming No. >8GB+ for video games Yes, some games use more than 8GB but less than 12GB currently.
Ryan Anderson
I need a cheap system that can be used as essentially a thin-client. I have a gaming PC and several paperspace VMs I use via parsec. I need something that can run either ubuntu 16.04 or windows 10, and supports hardware video decoding via a modern gpu. The system itself only really needs to be good enough for nominal desktop use.
Carter Wood
Is that a "No, it's not good enough for gaming"? and sorry I actually meant to reply to this guy
Jeremiah Jones
>No, it's not good enough for gaming"? R3 are not exactly gaming CPUs, they are just low end CPUs for those on a small budget, now its a better idea to buy R3 2200G and R3 2400G instead R3 1400 for example. The APU ones also lack PCIe lanes(Only 8 instead 16), and this is bad if you use a mid-high end GPU, it would bottleneck it considerably.
Kevin Price
Fuck this I'm buying the thinkcentre with the GTX.
Charles Roberts
Looking to upgrade my i5-3470, I have a 1070 and 8gb of ram, and I know I'll have to be upgrading my mobo too, but what's a good processor to accompany the 1070 for gaming?
Jeremiah Foster
My final question is if in pic related the poster meant for me to buy both the GPUs and put them in the PC or to buy just one.
Any recent high end CPU. Just get a I5-8600K or a R5 1600X or better.
Lucas Morales
Only one. GT 1030, GTX 1050 or 1050Ti. The 75W Limit means that your card will be powered by the PCIe slot, so you would only have to put it in the PCIe slot and screw it and it will work, but only cards that use 75W or less, not the ones that need a 6 pin power cables.
Example, this GTX 1050Ti uses 75W so it doesn't include a power connector. GT 1050 uses 60-75W. GT 1030 uses 30-45W.
If that was a 1400 I would say yes It's an alright value with current trends but do better if you can

Help me Sup Forums, i ran into a problem. So, I'm trying to install Windows 10 on a build with an MSI B350M Pro-VDH motherboard. I downloaded the ISO using the media creation tool from Microsoft, and created a bootable flashdrive using Rufus. However, every time i try to boot to the bootable flash drive it just gets stuck at the blue windows 10 logo, with no spinning little dots indicating that it froze. I tried changing the boot order on the BIOS settings, and even formatted my flash drive to Fat32 (As Rufus formats it into NTFS) and manually extracted the contents of the ISO to the root, but still I get the same results. I tried scouring the internet for a clear solution, but so far, no dice. here's the complete build in case you just need to know: pcpartpicker.com/list/9PZd6s

Want to upgrade from a laptop with i5-6200u/940mx to a desktop, only light gaming(overwatch, etc). Am kind of interested in Ryzen for video editing stuff.
Where I am, the best prices I can find are: (~$120) Ryzen 2200G (~$200) Ryzen 2400G (~$310) Ryzen 1600+Rx560 (~$350) Ryzen 1600+Gtx1050
What's really worth it?
David Campbell
2200G or 1600/560 are the best value 1600 will be a lot better at editing
Bentley Perez
Also, is the 560 the 896 or 1024 version?
William Barnes
Didn't know about the 896/1024 thing, thanks. Will have to check it when I'm at the store next time, they were a small shop without a online catalog.
John Ward
2400G. Its iGPU should be enough for Overwatch if you change the settings a bit.
Alexander Scott
Media creation tool can create bootable flash. Why the fuck did you used additional software?
Jordan Edwards
if brit prices are like US prices it is a steal just due to the 1080ti
Carter Reed
It's like buying a Ti and getting a bunch of free shit in the process However, that free shit is lame.
On a related note, what cpu goes best with a 1070 and 16GB RAM? MOBO unbought.
Isaiah Gonzalez
>We cannot ship products valued over £100 out of the UK. If you are an international customer, please take note that orders over £100 will be declined. Fucking REEEEEE

Connor Martinez
because for some reason, media creation tool cannot detect my flash drive

>tfw want to plan a build around an $8k 3840 x 2160 display I'm gonna become poor, am I not?
Noah Bennett
an 8k display cost much less then that, what the hell cost that much?
>The APU ones also lack PCIe lanes(Only 8 instead 16), and this is bad if you use a mid-high end GPU, it would bottleneck it considerably. No it wouldn't. 8 lanes is plenty unless you're planning to get something like 2080 ti.
Gavin Miller
>And you can overclock both of them so speed is only worth it if you're really lazy If you're overclocking, you're almost certainly going to get better results with a 1600x.
Gavin Phillips
It's pretty much just a gimmick display but it really attracts me. Probably not worth the money per se, but if I can afford it...
i5-8400 minimum. Alternatively, i3-8350k and overclock it
Cameron Flores
>recommending 4 cores in 2018
Blake Reed
Go look up i3-8350k benchmarks
Ryan Hernandez
whatever floats your boat we'll i'd think that you're gonna be very satisfied,if not a bit wallet thin
Julian Russell
i don't need to. it's literally i5-7600k
Kevin Mitchell
Is there any point in getting a GTX1060 or similar card nowdays? I could get one for cheap (more like regular price, 300€) through a supplier for the company I work for, but there is literally nothing I want to play on PC nowdays, all there is are indies that run even on my 3 years old laptop, or bloated AAA PS4 ports that are about as fun as eating shit.
According to my supplier, these cards are flying off the shelves because of buttcoins, in fact they're nearly impossible to find on Amazon and so on for a honest price. Companies are buying entire lots of these to stuff them into mining warehouses.
Should I just get one to "future proof" my computer (currently rocking some overclocked edition of the 560Ti, which still runs quite well for games that don't need more than 1Gb of vRAM) before they become literally impossible to find?
Or should I just wait for the buttcoin bubble to burst and get a 20xx series GPU later on?
Eli Gonzalez
That means you're literally retarded
Kayden Ortiz
keep being a corelet
Alexander James
Keep being an ignorant retard
Jayden Gutierrez
>Go look up i3-8350k benchmarks Have you actually looked at any that show the minimum FPS? The 8350k is a pretty good chip, but when you can get a 8400 for practically the same price, it's simply overpriced.
Austin Wright
Is i3-8100 good from a budget pc perspective? Gonna pair it with a 1060
Blake Baker
I would never buy a locked processor because there's no guarantee you can even reach the rated speed.
Thomas Russell
>I would never buy a locked processor because there's no guarantee you can even reach the rated speed. That's the most retarded thing I've read all week.
Luis Green
?
my 8700k will not reach 4.7ghz ever and barely ever goes above 4.3. All running single core benchmarks. I have to set it manually.
If you don't need it don't bother. I'm pretty sure even if not in use de parts naturally deteriorate or something. I don't know. But if you don't need it don't bother. But I believe prices will never be the same. They won't be insane but they won't be low as nvidia has solidified their monopoly. Besides that the 1060 as of now has an expected future proofing of 3 years max till its down to only handling medium settings max on AAA.
Carter Richardson
that price differential doesn't make sense get a 850
Jayden White
Samsung promises 300tb of endurance on the 860 over the 150tb of 850. I don't know how this corresponds to everyday use in the long run though.
Nathaniel Price
finally built mine today, can someone explain to me why is the speed like that?
you have power-saving options enabled in bios, the cpu downclocks itself when it's idling.
Nolan Green
it'll still last years, any by that time the 860 price would drop and you'd have no regrets replacing it
Benjamin Johnson
what i5 4th gen should I get if I have 1050 ti for gaming?
Tyler Moore
Consider how much data you write on the SSD per day on average. Even if it's 100GB, the 850 will still last years.
Jaxson Nelson
if everything is default CPU-related in Bios, there's nothing to be scared about
Kevin Ross
They're all shit, so buy whatever
Mason Murphy
I'm a PC brainlet, but also an accountant who would feel comfortable dropping 1K USD on building something I'm mostly just interested in emulating games (3DS, PS2, PSP, Wii) but also playing some less-than-new games that get ported to PC. Anyone have any starting tips? Or just good rig advice
Angel Brown
Alright fags
my dad is still rocking a PC from 1998 with windows XP that takes 15 minutes to boot, it just got to go so im thinking about building a small mini-ITX office PC for him for his bday. The reason he never bought a new computer is because "computers are so big today i want something small on the desk".
Is Fractal Design Define Nano S the best smallish mini-itx case out there? Or is there anything better?
For emulation i would recommend having an overclocked i7 with water cooling.Emulation takes a lot of CPU power, especially good emulation with good framerate. I can build something on pc builder wait a sec.
Alexander Perry
no the define nano s is huge. Get an asrock deskmini
Yeah if you wanna play Wii in 60FPS and 1080p/4K you need a lot of CPU.
Jacob Lopez
i5 is enough, coffee lake i3 even
Charles Sanchez
Coffee Lake i3 is literally an i5
William Ramirez
Appreciate it, man
Gabriel Bennett
>NO i7 7700
The fuck am I reading? Are you to retarded to simply use old parts who you can buy cheep? Do you really need to pay x10 more to get this 0.000000001% improvement, and know it will be irrelevant because no one is optimizing?
7th gen is completely superseded by Coffee Lake, in both price and performance >Buys used >Calls others retarded Irony
James Watson
>RAM 32 GiB is the norm 16 GiB is the minimum. > if I'm only going to be playin' vidyer? These are the specifications for web browsing.
Gaming is 16 GiB. 8GiB of the OS 8GiB for the game.
you need to be retarded to have a unbalanced build and buy the latest and best graphics cards and then write shit like >its OK that I have only 4GiB because I can play on the minimal quality and it works Why the fuck did you throw the money on the GPU then?
Are you into 3D rendering or some shit? If not you wasted your money!
Owen Campbell
>buy this used cpu for $250 even though it gets outperformed by a new cpu for $180 great advice user
Juan Martin
>8GiB of the OS the absolute state of windows
Colton Foster
>32 GiB is the norm >16 GiB is the minimum. No-one gets 32GB for vidya unless they're either retarded or have a budget of $2000+. Especially not with the current RAM prices.
>Buys used >Calls others retarded See and try to find the word "used". Homework for special needs children learn the difference between "old" and "used"
Jackson Turner
Now read the rest of my post, faggot
Robert Garcia
I'm not building a new computer for another year so i did not pay attention to the CPU developments.
However from my experience using 1 generation older hardware was always smarter and cheaper.
Can you post what you are talking about? Some links to resources etc.
