/jazz/

Alright starting up a jazz thread cuz I don't see one here. There's two types of jazz that I'm really in the mood for right now that I don't know much about.
Some hard bop type stuff like this

And some brassy stuff like this

Can anyone give me some essential albums in the same vein as those songs? Not necessarily both at once

What a fantastic idea, complimenting Bill's signature sappy sentimental style of jazz with a flute. I'm in love.

can someone please articulate the differences between bebop, hard bop, and post-bop? i've heard plenty from each genre, but i still don't totally get the difference.

bebop is fast, technical and not very danceable
hard bop is rhythmic and pretty danceable
post-bop is (basically) 60s contemporary jazz that doesn't fit into a preexisting category

They're not genres, they're idioms. Also don't get caught in the metalsperg subgenre faggotry.

they're more like musical time periods. there's nothing wrong with learning about their meaning and origin

dope, thank you!

Bebop's pretty danceable I think? The rhythms are very defined

for hard bop, you can't go wrong with early Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers and Lee Morgan's "The Sidewinder"

>just play random notes on a grating instrument

wow great song bro
